My female lead spends her whole life TRYING to be passive. She isn't naturally timid or hesitant or people pleasing, but she doesn't want people to think she's cold, or mean or scary so she tries to seem as passive as possible to avoid stepping on peoples toes, or offending them.
I think the female character who is really passive is a common idea, but one trying to be passive intentionally I only know of like one other story where that's the case. And in the case of my lead, Essence, it isn't to cover up her evil past.
