What dream or nightmare sticks with you still to this day?

Well for me I dream a lot of things because I have a lot in mind during the day, but I guess it would have to be a sail boat on water and the sun going down or rising, idk why I dreamt of a sail boat maybe its because I'm half islander and the flag has a sail boat on it, but it was a long time ago when I was much smaller than I am now I think

Whenever I get dreams I can remember they are always janky A-F. I'm super jelly of folks who can have lucid dreams, or adventure dreams. Mine are usually horrific and center around the threat of death. When they don't it's just surreal like giant toilets and little people.

The one that sticks with me to this day is one where I magic school bussed inside my own body and my heart just started chasing me with a knife.

I love writing about dreams as they influence a lot of my work. (It's a joke with my family that I have these crazy-long dreams I write down in a dream journal while my family says I steal their dreams because they can barely remember them.)

...I had a dream near the beginning of this year that stuck with about my series "Red Shift". I actually used the imagery later in the story for my character Stellar and her apocalyptic visions! (Writing is pulled from my dream journal.)

Also, warning that both dreams I'm posting could be seen as pandemic related.

So, in the dream I was working in a doctor's office. We had a series of flu shot vials that were "bad" and weren't allowed to use them on patients. But I was curious about what they would do to a human body. So, I knocked a female patient unconscious when no one was looking and dragged her to a bathroom. She woke up and started fighting me (rightfully so lmao). I ran out of the bathroom and then ran back in. I could hear her voice but not see her. I figured out she was in the ceiling and knocked her out of the paneling. Then I injected her with the "bad" flu vial. (PSA: I would never do this to someone lmao.) The dream switched and I was in a dorm-like building I shared with a bunch of other girls. They all would whisper about me "being not from Earth". I looked outside and this thick red smoke was filling the sky and covering the city. I started flying around the dorm screaming and then I flew out a window. I landed right outside and the girls came outside behind me. I was like "this world will end and be reborn but I shall live". Then I looked over and could see S and the ground cracking. I pointed at S and was like "That's someone I love" and one of the girls was like "He's terrifying..." Then I flew over to S and he was like "hi" lol. The last shot in the dream was buildings crumbling into rivers of blood and people trying to run and hide. Then I woke up.

A recent dream...

In the dream I was in my room but was in another state. I could hear my childhood friend M calling for my help and she sounded really scared. I told her that I was coming and phased through my ceiling. I flew through the night sky and once I reached Florida, our city became a little 2D game grid. I could still hear her calling for help though and I tried to float down, but ended up in a large, dark corridor with red lights. I started walking and then I was in the city but everything, the buildings and whatnot, was pitch black. I heard M say "the world will end and I'm going with it, I'm scared" and I woke up.

1) an extremely short lucid dream where i was in my grandmother's apartment, then realized i was in a dream, and could control myself there, and looked out of the window
2) a short nightmare where I look in the mirror, see something off about my reflection, look again, and then my reflection glitches out and i scream in the dream and wake up. While it wasn't gory or violent like a few other dreams in this list, this one is the scarier one I had.

3) tw gore and death

another creepy one about a subway \ underground \ metro train covered in gore and people sitting on the tracks smiling and oblivious. I look away as the train comes in. It is covered in gore.

4) tw violence and i guess family violence

my mom stabbed me and then left me behind in some sort of hotel. The wound was pretty deep, going through my arm, but there was no blood at all. Me and mom are lucky to actually get along fine IRL.

5) One of my earliest memories. I was definitely younger than 5, in my bed, and the sky was red, and there was a pale feminine face or mask in the sky, looking down somewhere, but not at me. there was a high pitched noise. I am not sure what it was. I faintly remember the face being surrounded by striped dreadlock-like things. I'm not sure if it was a dream or I saw some eldritch BS. I kinda maybe have somewhat rational explanations for the elements of it (red sky = cloudy night in a city that uses too many orange lights, remembered as red for some reason. High pitched noise - one of those hellish road washing machines. Just. Why. That sound terrifies me to this day. the face kinda looked like the Japanese figurines that were kept in another room that my grandma brought from Japan.)

I seem to have a set of recurring themes and locations in my dreams:

1. creepy train station where i'm always pulled towards the tracks and that feels unsteady
2. some sort of forest that seems to be connected to some fields and flooded areas
3. various IRL locations that I've been to like the school i used to go to, the apartment I used to live in, the apartment I currently live in
4. dreams where I'm picking up extremely large and \ or brightly colored feathers (started a few years back)
5. tornado dreams (used to be frequent in high school)
6. northern lights dreams (used to happen a lot when i attended uni in a northern city)
7. dreams where I'm attending school or university but for some reason keep missing my classes for dumb reasons (these are new, not sure what brought them about as I've graduated both school and university long ago, and am not attending any online classes)

and some stress dreams of a 2020 flavor:

Had this nightmare that was very similar to sleep paralysis, I was in a continuous loop.

I would 'wake up' from a nightmare then realize I couldn't move in my bed, have a heart attack about not being able to move and try to move my arms. Then I woke up again, repeat this scenario five more times, I finally realize that I'm dreaming and I can't seem to wake myself up. There was one part where my sister was next to me and I tried to call out her name so she could somehow get me up, but that was part of the nightmare as well. Then after I 'woke up' one last time there was a demon, I couldn't move. I screamed a blood-curdling scream in my dream, that was what woke me up for real. After I woke up, I wasn't even sure if I was awake so I ran down the stairs, and thankfully it wasn't part of the nightmare, but I couldn't go to sleep afterwards. I never screamed so hard in my life, I asked my siblings if they heard me scream, but they said they didn't. That scream was also a part of my nightmare, but I thank myself for screaming otherwise I wonder if I would still be stuck in my dream today.

I'm an old man and have only had one nightmare in my life. At the movies sitting behind a woman with a large yellow afro. I couldn't see the screen. Suddenly, she jumped up, spun around, and pointed her finger in my face. She screamed over and over, he's dead. I wanted to tell her she was wrong but I could neither speak nor move. I awoke in a sweat, my heart racing.

I am very interested in dreams. I have not gone back to school in my dreams, but I have gone back to the Navy, or to some job or other. I found out in my early adulthood that I dream in heraldric symbols. Now in my old age, I think that dreams are alternate realities or a preview of alternate lives that I may choose from.

Thank you! This is interesting! Yeah, usually I'm just chillin' on the bus and I'm the only one on it, but there have also been a couple where I have to plan a class field trip, and on the way back, for some reason there are enough seats for everyone but me and I have to stay behind at the field trip location.

The most recent one was kind of silly: I dreamed that I had spent a long time training with a kung fu master on some remote mountain. Finally, he says, "I have taught you almost everything, so now we can move on to the last, most important lesson: I need you to get on that bus over there as fast as possible!" So I get on, and it drives away and the kung fu master just waves goodbye haha.

But yeah, I've definitely had a lot of important decisions to make over the past couple of years, and my tarot cards have also been telling me that I have to decide now whether I make my own decisions or let someone else make them for me.

I've had some prophetic dreams along the way. End of days kinda stuff. Some dreams are full-length movies. Some are just a scene or phrase with several words or images that are easy enough to figure out.

i have one that i remembering these days, is one that i got shot on the head, and i didn't woke up once i got shot, i could feel the bullet in my head, and me falling on the ground, and felt a bit of pain for 2 seconds or so, before i could finally wake up, idk, this dream comes to my mind sometimes

I had a recurring nightmare where the ground was snakes, they were biting my socks, my dresser was full of snakes, went to bed, bed was full of snakes.
I'm not afraid of snakes though.

This was a dream I had when I was 5 or 6 years old. I'm kinda sure it is a dream. In it, me and my mom are running across a narrow corridor with high walls lined with plates with laughing skulls. ( The sounds they made were actually the sound frogs make, something I realized some time after I had the dream) I was wondering what was going on with my 5 year old self to dream of something like that

I had a dream back when I was 9 years old, I was running away (jump run, like ninjas in Naruto would) from the Medusa -like villain of a TV show airing that time. I remembered that when I was that age, I was kinda forced to practice my Maths in between the said TV show's commercial breaks. Made me think I had that dream because I was scared and running away from Math​

I don't have much recurring dreams or locations but one thing I noticed is that I tend to fly or at least ninja-leap in many of those dreams in my childhood.

ok, so I had this wicked awesome dream the other day (I know, not from a long time ago, sorry), and it made my day. I dreamed that I was this character that out I was some kind of magician that could control electricity, and that I had a grandfather who was an evil magician person with the same abilities, and wanted to come and turn me to the dark side, if you will, and I'd tried to hide from him, but he found me, and for some reason I was on this high school football field, and we wound up fighting and I won by punching him in the face repeatedly with electricity-fueled punches and it was epic. 10/10 would dream again.

I've also had this dream that there was this scary nightmare demon thing chasing me, and while running from it, I somehow stumbled on a portal to a place between a bunch of worlds. The place was protected by an enchanted iron fence that kept the demon away. It was like a place of healing where people could go to recuperate, and it was seen to by this anthropomorphic turtle (still turtle-sized though) that walked on two legs.

Those both got written down as potential story ideas to work off of.

I sometimes dream of school for some reason maybe its because I am still a student but theres one dream where I had went back to an old school I used to go and there was a school shooting im not sure why though

Oh I also keep a dream journal! Some dreams are pretty interesting!

I think my yearning to wander around outside but being unable to led to an influx of dreams about being in a huge mall of several floors and tunnels linking them. And finding a big food court to eat at. The mall is always very empty and looks sort of abandoned but the stores are all open. I think I dreamed of this at least once a month...

Okay. recently I had this dream where I'm at work. I look outside and there is huge group of people with plain white picket signs, protest I don't know. Everyone inside was trapped for the entire shift. When it came time to clock out, everyone decided to make a B-line for their cars. I made it about half-way when the people protesting became to swarm my car. I managed to get inside. They surrounded the car. They pounded on the windows and hood. I was panicking. That's when I woke up. My heart was pounding and I was breathing heavy.

I think what I can take back from this dream is that every action you take in life, there will always be an instant reaction. Depending on how big or small it may be, you need to try and wave your way though it the best way you can.

At least that's my take on what happened.

Just wanted to share this one because it made me laugh: I dreamed that the lower half of my body turned into the lower half of a chicken's body, and it had a will of its own. So it started walking/running around to random places, but I didn't care, so my human half just took a nap while my chicken half did whatever XD.

I also think its interesting how some of the dreams here seem to be reflecting all the crazy stuff that happened this and last year.

I vividly remember a dream I had in maybe tenth grade where I was working at a convenience store and a customer came in to tell me he had just removed both his kidneys in the bathroom and could I call the hospital for him. Not graphic at all, but I still think it's the most terrified I've ever been from a nightmare.

The first dream that comes to my mind is one of the weird kind rather than scary. One of my characters gave birth to a bunch of apples. But it was a guy character... xD

Or recently I had a dream about a cat. It was following me and started talking about giving up and how noithing matters. It's face became more ugly as it talked, with it's teeth sticking out of their mouth all crooked and sharp, then it jumped to my face and I woke up. Messed up my mood for that day. : /
