I find him a really well written and compelling superhero.
His origin story became iconic because his parent`s death at the hands of a crook opened his eyes to the horrors of the world, and is a tragedy not even all the money of the world could reverse.
His reason to chose a bat, comes from his childhood phobia. He is a man who embraced his fears to instill them onto the criminals, to become a symbol of justice and at the same time a symbol of fear for his enemies.
He fight supernatural treats with his skills, smarts, preparation and wits, which makes him interesting to watch, because he can`t afford to rely on raw power to overcome his troubles.
And at the same time, this hero is still a cynical broken man. This leads him to be a loner and his heroics take a toll on his personal life. He is more than willing to pay this price, but it still has it`s weight, specially when it takes to bond with teammates.
He is not a man who always wins, many times he had been defeated, but used that experience to learn about his opponents for the next time they fight. Even when he mostly manages to catch his enemies, not all the victories come without a price. Sometimes, he loses someone important to him.
And he is a man who sticks to his convictions, no matter what, which is a strenght and a weakness at the same time. It gives him the resolve to come up with a plan and to keep going, but at the same time, some enemies like the joker exploit his convictions. I disliked batman vs superman because they took away that part of Batman`s character and just made him an angry edgelord.
