What is the ideal timing for publication?

It generally takes me two weeks to fulfill a completed page. That includes lining, painting and scanning, lettering and bubbling and editing. If I did two pages an episode it would be a full month.
Is that too much time? It's a traditional production and so maybe the painting takes too long at 12 hours compared to the PS version?

Would it be better to do one page an episode to reduce wait times?

Since my publication is a novel I post half and half, but since you said it takes you two weeks to complete a page, it would be best to wait until you get ahead and I mean very far ahead til you start posting

I recommend taking a hiatus to create a backstock of pages, if you need to. That way you can ensure you won't have to rush anything... Just as Harmony mentioned. Personally my pages don't take as long because they're digitally painted, but even I like to have several updates ready ahead of time. Get a decent backlog, which you can work out depending on how many pages you want to create, and you might be able to update more frequently.

Also updating with one page per episode is perfectly fine.

I get told that a lot with my projects. I tend to use techniques that take LOTS of time. I timed myself one day, and in 12 hours I had finished the lion's portrait painting.

just in painting. The lining I did in only 1 hour since I used a reference.

that said, I could see how maybe subs would be few and far between for this sort of thing. Nobody typically wants a painted graphic novel, they want pretty lines with vivid colors from PS or some other suite of software. like I said I can make two completed pages in under 4 weeks. However, as I stated it's only 12 hours to paint an entire piece, I could for instance, complete a painting in about 2 or 3 days, and just keep painting, for a week solid and have 2 or 3 paintings ready for scanning.

Perhaps that should be my shedule? then I would be creating a backlog...

EDIT: Almost forgot. I take a day to record music on my violin for each episode I basically stare at the two pages and play what I feel is in the works.

it doesn't make sense because I'm not ruled by logic. The thing I'm doing is painting scenes from a book I wrote at 19, and no longer have in my life. So I'm pulling from memory the visuals. I don't remember the words. so it's taking a really long time to find the right words.

I'm kinda in the same place, lol. My pages take a while to create. But I'm doing what Harmony and Wumble mentioned by creating a decent sized buffer. I recall the author of Grassblades once saying she created a 50 page buffer before she started posting, so I'm using her as inspiration. xD

(Another thing to keep in mind: You /will/ get faster as you practice. :>)

If this is really the case... It would REALLY help you to redraft the plot. If you don't understand or remember most of the story it's clearly slowing you down. You might say you're not "ruled by logic" but honestly it's slowing yourself down on purpose.

Of you really want to work faster consider outlining your plot and maybe even drafting out a simplistic script. It will do wonders for your storytelling as well.

You don't have to do it this way of course, but since you're looking to speed up your process I'm gonna be honest: Knowing what you're drawing is half of the work in making a comic. If you know what you're gonna write before you start drawing you're going to have much better pacing and story.

I second the recommendation to make sketches of your work; especially if you're aiming for a long-term narrative.

Below is a picture of the rough sketches I made for Chapter 3 of my webcomic, The Valkyries.
I'm not a great artist by any means but I'm aiming for something that has a coherent and enjoyable plot.

After finishing my first draft, I realized that the ending I was simply "ending up" at sucked big time.
I had to throw out about 6 pages twice just to get something I was happy with.

So anyways if your mind's struggling to write out your comic - I really recommend just putting EVERYTHING down in a rough sketch. Once you review it you'll have a MUCH better idea on whether the story's coming together or not.

that's 3 hours progress. I just can't seem to speed things along. I even bought a 1/8th inch wider brush.
