What is the worst anime you've seen?

"Worst anime" is probably too strong of a word for it, but I never liked Attack on Titan.

Good looooooooord, this anime was a waste of time. I never got why everyone loved it so much. It is sooooo boring. It never gets around to telling the story it promises, the characters are unlikable, boring or both, the judeo-christian symbolism doesn't make a whole lot of sense and the animation budget was clearly non existent. And the ending (both of them) are just so unsatisfying.

I get a lot of people telling me that I just don't get it. But that doesn't really matter all that much to me. If a story is told so that a vast majority of the audience won't get it without extensive research, it's probably not told to well. So if the message is lost the story should at least be somewhat enjoyable, which NGE wasn't at all for me. Ugh, I really hate this thing. And the fact that it is so popular will haunt me for the rest of my life

It's one of my favorite anime, I've watched it 5 times and hung out on the forum, devoted to it, for a 3 years, to discuss everything and solve all its mysteries (spoiler: I didn't succeed in it)!!!

I think it helps a lot to know the creator has having some kind of breakdown while he was making.

It also is a darker telling of a typical 1970's Super Robot anime with a shonen MC with an @sshole father who built a robot to fight mysterious otherworldly, inhuman threats.

Yeah, the most irksome thing about a show for me is if it's actively trying to be "deep". I don't agree with your opinions for all the shows you listed but I can totally understand where you're coming from!

Speaking of overly pretentious shows: Psycho-Pass. It's definitely not the worst show I've seen but holy crap referencing some famous philosophical work every 10 seconds doesn't make your work philosophical. I felt like the show was too busy trying to tell the audience that it was deep rather than bringing up the nuanced questions and ideas it actually needed to be deep.

Agree with you 100% that Ghost in the Shell and Monster are great!

There was a time in my life when I was able to explain the whole world through the prism of NGE. Now, it still holds a very high place in my pantheon, though I cannot move myself to rewatch it. The new NGE movies are a worthy mention in this thread, I think, they killed the franchise for me. Also, any movie by Makoto Shinkai, he turns even good stories into a snot-fest with his unnecessary over the top love stories...

I don't hate them, but should admit that I haven't understood them; they are not quite in the tone of the old NGE.

Haha, I knew that NGE especially would a controversial pick for "worst anime", so I expected people to disagree on shows ^^

Psycho Pass I haven't watched in full, just a few episodes. My biggest problem with it was how horrible the pacing was. It could have been a cool story (and maybe it does become that?) and I did like many of the characters somewhat. But everything that was character development was just so rushed. You can't go around and barely introduce a character for two episodes and then launch him into deep introspective monologues in the third and have him blabber on about a relationship he clearly hasn't made yet. That's not how this works. It felt so artificial and turned me off from it.

Death Note It started out great and I couldn't stop binge watching it. Then something happened, and the story ran out of gas and it was filler episodes until finally the big conflict was solved very abruptly, and with very out of place fan service. Then guess what? TEN MORE EPISODES with new characters. I couldn't make it through them.

According to me, the worst anime I have ever watched is Junjou Romantica. Unfortunately, it was the first BL anime I watched and I literally threw up in disgust after watching some episodes. I know it is very popular, but it was very explicit and did not suit my tastes. The whole concept of glamorizing abuse is pointless. To this day, I feel sick whenever that anime is mentioned.

The only anime that saved me from hating BL after that was No.6.

I wouldn't say it's bad, it's more like NGE is the Zardoz of anime, in a way like "What in the Hell I am watching?!" If never seen Zardoz, I really can't explain it, other than it has Sean Conney in a red nappy and the "Gun is Good!".

These are some of the ones I managed to finish or watch to a point where I figured it wouldn't get any better, and still hate and want my time refunded:

Gundam Seed Destiny -> they should have stopped at Gundam Seed.
Sword art online -> ruined by fanservice and harem garbage. I otherwise liked the idea.
Another -> when you try too hard to make a plot twist but it makes no sense.
Attack on titan -> bland and overrated. Not sure if the anime has reached the part where the magical/supernatural events just feel completely off, like just made to get the story follow a certain path. Also, everything after opening the basement door just feels cliche.
Aldnoah Zero -> plot holes and nonsense all over the place. Would still watch again for the action and soundtrack, but with several cans of beer so I can overlook the hollow characters.
Bakemonogatari -> good premise but ruined by fanservice and weird monologues.
Bleach -> I used to LOVE this series, and looking back at the first 3 seasons it just feels like a completely different anime from what it became later. Dragon Ball syndrome.

Well, I haven't seen that much anime. But my fave manga is Pandora Hearts and the anime adaption is just... NO.
They started on pretty good, following the manga and all of that, then everything was thrown to the crap. I wish they could do a remake

As much as it pains me to say it, it was Naruto. I watched it religiously as a high-schooler but after watching SO MUCH FILLER, I just stayed away for over a decade! Same problem with the Boruto series as well.
