What is your least favourite part about doing a webcomic/novel

I probably won't. Each new release on Instagram still has a splash page, but it only has the page number and the arc title.
I just direct new readers to Tapas via a link in the description if they want to read the old chapters. Honestly since I dropped the Pixel-Art style, it's been so much easier on my workflow. (I use CSP now. The text tool is pretty nice.)

Just gotta hope that my pages clearly weave into each other, I guess. The best way is to have a good enough buffer to post 2-3 pages at once in a big update, but that isn't feasible for me and I couldn't make more than that while on break, so it'd leave me in a rush to finish pages again.

For me I would probably say writers block. Although I obviously still have it when I'm writing a regular novel, I feel even more pressed with a webnovel. With a novel or work that I'm not publishing until its completed, if I have writers block I can easily just take some time off to edit previous chapters, do research, or write ahead. However, with an on-going webnovel, having writers block for too long can mean loss of fanbase, drastic change in writing style suddenly (which can be good and bad depending on how it's done), and sloopy, fast-pased writing that doesn't immerse the reader.

That's actually a really interesting point! I'm quite the opposite, since I write commercially I'm usually stressed about deadline-dates and all that! Publishing online means I can write "in bulk" and then publish slowly and edit sporadically.

I never realized how simple my art was before I started doing comics, like I always draw the same poses in illustrations but that doesn't fly in comics so seeing how far behind I am in that department makes me a little sad. Also I'm not good at writing dialogue haha, gotta work on that.

Worrying that I'm not going to get pages done on time, with writer's block, artist's block, software crashes, day jobs, illnesses, family events or emergencies, and things that always pop up at the last minute.

Lineart takes me soooo long. I can color in like an hour or two no problem even without planning ahead of time...but lineart...I have a hard time sitting down and focusing....literally right this minute I should be drawing lineart but instead I’m on the forums LMAO

I'd say that keeping an update schedule and balancing getting pages done in a reasonable amount of time for that while also knowing that means they can never be as perfectly polished or detailed as would be ideal is pretty rough. I'm always really hard on myself and going back over my comic noticing every little misaligned eye or wonky line.

On the writing side there's also the double edged sword of flexibility. Being able to change the story you're making as you go in response to feedback or new ideas is great! ...But it's so easy to wing it and write yourself into a corner if you're not careful!

I think that's a common problem since with sketches, you're drawing multiple lines over each other so it's less prone to look like there are mistakes and whatnot. You can try solving this by simplifying your sketches. You might be spending too much time and making too many lines in your sketches.

For me, the least favorite part is the time investment. There are so many things I want to do but I sacrifice those things to make my comics instead.

Why are big updates better than smaller, steadier updates tho? In other words, why is 4-6 pages, at once, per month better than 1 page per week (if I understand correctly)?

They're good to keep viewer retention, there's this gross webcomic reader cliche where the artist always posting too little or too slowly. Entitlement aside, it's best to post once a week if that's all you can manage, BUT a special 3 page episode means you can make an event out of it, or even a donation goal, and you can get that plot twist or reveal out of the way to generate even more engagement.

Honestly, I think it heavly depends on the type of comic but, personaly, for a long and continuos story, it's hard for me to keep track, interest and memory of past events if the story is updated with one page per week.

Nope, but I hope to! Again, time, the earliest one I can think of must be 100 pages away still, unless I post the chapter intro which will be faster to produce.

I mean, everyone has their method! I always go back to read the previous update because I have the memory of a goldfish anyway, but I see bigger creators dealing with comments of "who's this character I don't remember what they were saying" and that's just the worst, even if it's not our fault.
