What kind of settings do you love most in BL novels?

– Modern day?
– Historical?
– Fantasy / supernatural?
– Workplace dynamics?

I’m currently writing a political slow-burn BL about an investigative journalist and a government official, and I’m always curious what worlds and tropes pull readers in the most.

For me I like a story not driven purely by romance. Like there's some other subplot. Don't care much about whether it's modern or historical.

My favorite BLs all have that in common.

I tried to do that in my web novel I'm writing which is an omegaverse about relationships, politics, and mystery. But i think part 1 focused too much on romance lololol

I like when the novel has a good plot too It catches the attention and sometimes it's like you're watching a movie in your head

Personally I currently like modern day stories with a twist (like a specific modern-day setting, I can only stomach so many highschool and workplace stories) and I also like (contemporary) fantasy!

I love historical settings and I'm currently writing one as well! Other than that I also like power bottom mafia in modern day world and cry baby top tropes? sports BL is also pretty good bc I like the comedic scenes.

I don't like university/students based BLs anymore Maybe I read too much of it. Thinking back most of the BLs I started with were based on a college settings. I mean they're not bad - like Lost in the Clouds was goated asf. It's just some of them...
