What was the first story that pushed you in art?

As normie as it sounds, it's Naruto.

I think it was the time I really want to make a manga, an epic long running one.

Mine was an indie webcomic called Moonlight Journey by NightTrill. I really loved her unique art style (I mean it was unique in my eyes as a child), though she've got bored of it and ended up deleting every sign of her old style. Still, that inspired me to create stories with my childhood friends and my sister.

I've got inspired to learn animation when I saw a report about how the movie A Fox's Tale was made. It was the first 3D animated movie in my country and it was absolutely horrible. But again, as a child, it was so fascinating to see how a movie like that was made and from that I knew that this is what I'd like to do as an adult. I'm also hoping to have my own studio/team one day like @GamerPrincessXI (I wish you all the best with that by the way).

It has begun 30 years ago, when Kentaro Miura have not hesitate to begin drawing his epic manga, even despite his style was an unprofessional and clumsy that times. And then he continued to draw his story for 30 years, constantly improving and growing readership, until it have became one of the most well-drawn and popular manga.
When I learned about it, I've started to think, that maybe someday I will be able to implement my plots, too, even if it will take a long time. And that I will learn, how to do it better with practice, as he have learned.
The stories about how persistence lead to success often give me some encouragement.

Sailor Moon back in 1997. I loved everything about it, and nothing special, being a 7 y.o. kid I just really started to draw a lot and told everyone I'll going to be an animator... I wonder if I even knew what animators do? I'm not sure.

XIII. Before I read this I thought that comics is silly superhero-kind stuff which I certainly don't like. And after I read XIII I understood that comics can be different, and even my stories which I imaginating can be made as comics.

Definitely the first time I played Final Fantasy VII, I was so amazed by the world, the characters, the story, the cinematography that I had to create a knock off version at 7-8 y.o haha !

Hubby got into art in first grade due to his art teacher then. So he doesn't really remember a story.

After that, any ideas people had of him becoming anything that wasn't art related was defeated throughly.

For me, art is an on-off relationship, sadly. I have always been telling myself stories, pretty much ever since I was able to form coherent thoughts (to this day, I can't sleep until I've run through a story in my head), but actually arting? Somehow it got lost on me along the way several times when I tried to pick it up.

I devoured the anime and the comics they released alongside them (which really were just shortened versions of the anime episodes, but little Sarah did not care). I remember that my walls were full with full-body figures of my favorite senshi, and I drew them... a lot.

It's a shame I never really stayed on top of it because I would really love to draw my own characters. Tried picking up the pencil every few years again, but to no avail. I seem to lack the patience when it comes to visual art.

Actually, this is exactly what happened to me as I've got older and I thought the same thing. I just didn't have the patience to learn art but always wanted to visualize my own characters. The solution for me was to learn 3D sculpting instead because you can create amazing things without knowing how to draw. It turned out I do have the patience for visual art I just studied the wrong field. Maybe this can be a solution for you, too? Maybe not 3D art, but like real-sculpting, making plushies/figurines or any other art form.

That's a nice thought, though anything detailed I have to do with my hands/fingers often only results in temper tantrums on my side, and no one wants that.

Funny thing is, as long as I have some program for digital editing in front of me and can play around, it isn't as bad (still super annoying for me, but I can push through a bit better, pff). Pretty sure I could pick up a pen again when we have enough money for a tablet (my partner's an artist first and foremost and wants to buy an iPad to get started on that front).

I got really into drawing from making cartoon fanart in primary school - I was probably 7-9 years old? I drew fan-comics believe it or not, for Ben 10, Rainbow Brite, Transformers and Sailor Moon (my tastes were pretty broad lmao)

In fact, my first ever comic was made when I was 6 or 7 years old and it was about a group of kids that went on adventures (I found it when I went to visit my parents for some paperwork recently) and I had to laugh because the title of the comic was just "The 4 Weirds". Like I named my character cast the 4 Weirds, and they were self inserts of me and my close buddies. That's a thing I did. That's the first actual story I created. I couldn't even read what was going on because it was all done in fat felt-tip marker.

I believe for me it was a combination of my favorite cartoons I loved to watch! Avatar: The Last Airbender, Powerpuff Girls, and Teen Titans were some of the shows I grew up with back in elementary school and they were my favorite to watch. Avatar was my favorite for its characters and animation!

I did a bunch of fanart at first, but my first handful OCs were all made... In the style of the Power puffs, lol.

Into art, as a youth, not a story, rather a painter: Gustave Moreau (is it not ridiculous that I cannot post here paintings from the mid-19th century because of censorship on human bodies?)

Into comics... I think, not a single story, but a huge amount of webcomics, because their diversity showed me all the opportunities this medium could open for me. And maybe also the works from Hugo Pratt in the background, because this guy showed me early on, also in my youth, that comics could be real works of art, not only entertainment.

As petty as it may sound, some artists here like @Chita, @ghostieblu, @dragonsparking, and @alliascompany were kind of the ones to help push me in the direction to work on making drastic improvements in my art and start larger stories like DRGN finally. Late last year and very early this year, I was going through a slight phase of feeling really inferior in my artwork and writing for my projects due to feeling really unsatisfied and unhappy where I was currently at.

As for the first story to push me into art in general as a serious hobby, probably either Friendship is Magic and Transformers Animated. I absolutely loved who those shows looked and wanted to something similar to them.

The very first time when I became motivated to draw a longer story myself was when I read a vietnamese volume of Dragon Ball in my youth. It was the first time I realized how natural it felt to read a combination of comedy and dead serious elements.

The manga Hunter X Hunter had also a huge impact on my drawing and narration style, in particular the sketchy but dynamic strokes of the characters. Furthermore I always remember a certain statement of the author in an interview about letting the characters do their thing, in terms of, not forcing the pace of the story by sudden changes of events when the character would usually react otherwise. That new (meta) awareness for characterization also helped me a lot to write and define my characters.

My family goes on yearly trips to DisneyWorld and my house is covered in Disney posters/merch. I also loved Sailor Moon growing up. But I have to say my biggest push into specifically comic art was Hiro Mashima's mangas. I love his series especially the shorter ones like Monster Soul
