What you y'all think of "Slice of Life" comics?

Lol these comments kinda made me feel bad about my comic (it's sorta a gag a day)... so should I change it to comedy instead of slice of life ??

@ericherii: lol don't be! I think everybody has their likes and dislikes when it come to gag-a-day/slice of life. Do whatever you're good at! Like Joan mentioned; if you don't put passion or like what do you, your readers can sense it!

When I hear or see slice-of-life, I think about comics with the daily life theme. It can be a very wide genre in every way tho based on 1 character or a set of characters in a multi universe or just our little planet.

gag a day: only if i identify with the particular strip, i usually don't seek those out, I just end up seeing them in the daily snack or on tumblr
slice of life gag: love them! they don't always end up on a funny note, but if it's funny occasionally that's good enough for me (like the pigeon gazette and Isaac at life)
slice of life that isn't funny: are there even ones like that?
slice of life about fictional characters: not my thing, but i'm willing to take a look if the art is good

The fact that 'slice of life' is being confused for only being funny ha ha gag a day is very sad and is strong example on how badly the genres and tags need to really friggen be updated already.

I think of slice-of-life comics as literally day-by-day strips or talking about their own lives.

As I observed, most popular slice-of-life comics are from female creators. However, there are many male creators whose slice-of-life comics are popular as well
It is popular because of its relatable situations and humor.

You see them on Daily snacks almost everyday. They are hand-picked by the staff as well. I met creators with slice-of-life comics who had an overnight success.

Those kind of creators tell their experiences and happenings from their everyday life... Through strips.

If your comics are more plot-driven and meant for more mature audiences, just go with that since it's what you've been putting your time and passion into. :] That's all that really matters. If you're genuine that's usually what resonates well with the readers, I think. Sure a there's comics that are slice of life or gag-a-days that are super popular with great connection with the readers, but I think that's still attainable across the board. It may take time and effort to build up your subscriber base, but it will probably be more meaningful to you as well than if you started a slice of life just for the sake of making a slice of life. :3

Everyone has their own likes and dislikes, so it's good that you're conscious of the community, but I say go for what you love and want to share. My own comic was a creative outlet for myself with no thought about numbers when I started it and it felt great just to be drawing for myself. :] Who knows, maybe you could be a success quickly or steadily grow your subscriber base while advertising yourself on social media and such too. You can also stay connected with readers by posting pics and messages on your profile/wall or do livestreams too.
