I know there's people that try to avoid stuff like that in their stories but the hard truth is you can't?
And I'm talking about tropes where you go "DANG-IT! I DID IT AGAIN!?!?"
So I wanted to talk about this.
Mine are:
4 Main Characters. This one has been a staple ever since I was a little boy. I don't know why. It's weird.
The villain being some sort of siren lady? Like metaphorically speaking. I was shocked that the main villains in my work are always some lady trying to brainwash people through their looks/charisma. I did it again in my latest project and I was like "HOW?!?". Hopefully I can stop with this one but it looks like my webnovel is going to be about a group of them taking over universes so like... damn. I'm starting to think it's because I usually come up with the craziest designs for them? Evil ladies are fun to design for lol. Especially their hairstyles.
The Punching Bag Frenemy. This got so bad that one future arc in That Stick Figure Isekai is straight up a metacommentary about how I have a habit of doing this.
Cults. Main characters always come across a cult.
Unsubtle religious symbolism. I love that it's gotten to the point where my subscribers look out for it. Like a game of Where's Waldo?
Punny/Cartoony Alliterative Names. Even in my most serious gorunded stories, I always do this. I've accepted it after I've read a lot about people who do crimes and their names wind up being what they're put in prison for. There's so much that like... it CAN'T be a coincidence anymore lol. Which is why I'm okay with being unsubtle about it now.
