What's a writing weakness you've grown out of?

I also have orphan children in my lead roles (Zack at least is a true orphan, Kyara's dad just isn't in the picture as far as we know). But instead of having them be completely unsupervised in the "slice of life" portion of CH01, I placed them under the care of Old Nan and her orphanage. From Ch02 onward they are traveling together and there is a noticeable lack of adult supervision though.

That said, the death of Kyara's mother is a big part of her character and plays a major role in the story. So it's not like I dodge the question. With Zack however, I decided it's just not relevant enough to his arc. Maybe one day I'll explore it, but for now he has other issues haha.

I guess that's a weakness I grew out of, accepting that some things just aren't as relevant and cutting them in favor of the more important aspects. I've only got limited time to work on this, and while I could technically make a massive epic, dealing with ALL aspects of the world and characters, I prefer to finish the story in my lifetime (just to say, I'm already in my 6th year working on it, and will likely spend 7-9 years more to reach the end of Ch05)

I have a lot of writing weaknesses that I still haven't grown out of.

An example would be, I write mostly for male entertainment purposes. I should also cater to female readers.

another would be, forced bad jokes, dad jokes, outdated jokes, i dunno

I don´t see the weakness though, I think you should just write what
you love to write

Just reaching to something here: unless there's stuff that is actually a writing flaw (latent misogyny in the narration rather than from specific characters, female characters that have no personality or act like aliens when the men act generally normal, excessive violence against specifically women used as a plot device to affect the men rather than have that be a part of the female character's arc, etc...) women aren't put off by stories "from the male perspective".

Statistically it's been the case for a while that while most women will be perfectly willing to read a story with a male protagonist, a much larger subset of men will be put off by a story having a female protagonist. Not all, obviously, but enough to be statistically significant. Women read books "written for male entertainment" all the time, mainly because most books through history are written that way.

As long as you write well and don't have a bunch of "breasted boobily down the stairs", your audience is probably going to be pretty ok, no matter male, female or other.

There are 2 things that come to my mind that I got better at.

1) writing what I really want to write and not thinking about if people like
it or not or how to please people

2) I got better at the most important step in the creative process.
Creating the big picture first and getting that good first.
When the big picture is not good then all the details
and everything else will not make it better. That´s a principle
which works in comics, figures, songs, stories etc.
One thing that helped my story writing is telling every story,
episode etc in a limited amount of panels. If the message can´t be
told in 12 panels then the story isn´t working
