I have a team! The three core members own a small business together. We switch roles a lot so it's not strict on who does what, it's a more collaborative effort where we all have input on whatever problem is on the table whether it be creative or business related. Here are our general roles, though:
Me - I'm one of the original creators, the artist, and team manager. My support roles include writing and editing. I create deadlines, delegate tasks, organize and create merchandise, apply to/sell at conventions, lay out pages, draw the characters, do effects, and prep print files. I often also have to do the graphic design, promotional art, and other related assets, though sometimes I can pass that to other people.
Joanna - She's the other original creator of the comic and functions primarily as our writer, accountant, toner/flatter, and letterer. She picks up a lot of the grunt work on the comic pages, which I am always thankful for She also has a very demanding full time day job so her time is limited.
Mark - He is our editor and researcher. He came in a year or two into development, but he's cemented himself as a very important part of our team. He does a lot of the legwork by researching literally anything we need, expanded the lore of the world by a large margin, helps me sell at conventions, and recently took over managing shipping for the Etsy store.
Aside from us three, I have a friend that cleans up my lineart on the pages and later chops them up for Instagram. Another person does backgrounds, concept art, and misc graphic tasks. We all communicate through Discord (usually in a server specifically for work) and share files through Dropbox. We're also in the process of getting a social media person situated, but that may take awhile to set up properly.
For a long time, we paid our contractors but not us core members because we needed the time to grow. We've consistently been able to pay ourselves now though, even if it's only like... part time wages right now. We'll get there I think, it'll just take some more time.
I really enjoy having my team and I honestly don't think I could do it without them. With a team, you can pool together everyone's strengths and make your project shine. Taking out any one of us would damage the quality of the comic. I honestly don't think I could be producing as much art as I do without them taking some of the burden off of me! (Though I am still very, very busy, don't get me wrong.)
