Time Gate: Reaper is "intended" for 17+ readers. I say intended because, while it's not quite there yet in the plot, as a whole Time Gate deals with a lot of mature themes, including gruesome deaths, suicide, sexual themes, etc. that I frankly wouldn't want a 14 year old reading, no matter how "edgy" they might claim to be lol In REALITY most of my readers are between the ages of 14-25, but I can see that shifting as the series grows darker in the coming chapters (can't wait for it aah <3)

I definitely intended my comic for like 12+ but I know I have a few younger readers. I don't really have much adult stuff (just some swearing) but I didn't think my comic would interest little kids since there's a lot of focus on character relationships and sometimes there's not much action or humor. If they wanna read it then they're welcome to hahah.

I'd say Handsome and Hideous is pretty age group friendly overall, since more adult themes are only mentioned in passing.

Did anyone else read Watchmen as a teen? I would say Watchmen is the sort of standard 17+ rating. It's got mature themes, violence that I think its above the norm for violence in a book or movie and a naked blue man.

When I went to comic stores with my parents they wouldn't let me read anything with more than superhero violence. I guess I consider superhero violence to be for 12 or 13 and up, if not even a bit younger. I think anime/manga violence is usually similarly 12+
I think I draw the line at torture depictions with extremely realistic gore, body horror and rape (implied or otherwise) in association with the violence that would make it 17+

Also, in b4 someone asks 'why does this matter' I know a lot of people have to label their work for cons and there's rules about what can be sold to minors. Just trying to figure out if I'll get busted for implied sex 9 _ 9 ;;

I think I Work Part-time...IN HELL! would be teen and up. I haven't thought about how much violence and eechi is going to be in it, but it plays an important part in certain character backstories. I will probably censor out explicits though.

Conventions will usually state that information in their contracts, you'll have to read through it to know. Each convention has different rules as well but in general if you're unsure you can ask the staff and they'll usually clarify.

I know the general rule here was anything you have that might be too violent or suggestive be kept out of REACH of minors. As in, put it further back on the table, higher on a shelf and just not easily in their reach. While 18+ plus material was not allowed to be put on display, BUT you are allowed to sell, customers will just have to ask if you have it available, you also cannot sell to them unless they have ID with prof of their age.

Again, that's just the conventions I've been to around here, so don't just go by my word and better to read the rules, my experience selling is also not USA based, so different standards on what is deemed acceptable and how such content is handled. So read the rules for sure.

I've read over the rules and it seems to be mostly for explicitly pornographic stuff. There's one nipple in my comic, and no violence, but there's a lot of lines of cocaine. I haven't seen any rule about drug references, so I'm wondering if that counts as adult material? I'll have my books on a shelf for sure, and guess I'll get stickers to cover that nipple on display copies.

... Is one nipple reason enough for requiring ID? I don't want to overreact but also don't want to under react and get busted.

Yep, this is basically Grassblades too.

There is a level of violence and blood, but it's not too detailed and rarely lingered on for more than a panel or two, there's minimal swearing and no nudity. As such, I haven't had to put an NSFW-filter on anything yet - my levels of violence are well within the limits of your average action-movie.

If I do ever reach what the content-policy defines as mature material, I'll put it behind an NSFW-filter - both for the sake of younger readers, and for the sake of people who, you know, actually read comics on their lunchbreak at work and don't want to get in trouble - but beyond that, there isn't really much I can do. Kids will read what they will read, and it's up to their parents to monitor their internet habits anyway.

I didn't set out specifically to make a comic for a specific age-demographic - I'm just telling the story I want to tell - but that's the way it ended up.

For Consolers... I'm not really writing "for anyone" regarding age group, just other gamers and people interested in game history.
Though for rating, I'd guess it's a light PG13 at most? There's occasional swears (though personally I never considered this THAT bad) and a few scenes with "blood" - instead except of blood, the companies bleed money so I guess it feels somewhat less "bad"? Nothing in the way of nudity/sex and the furthest I would possibly go would be the occasional joke with just dialogue. I don't keep it out specifically to make it "kid friendly", but more due to not really having any interest haha xD
However, even if a lot of it would be kid-APPROPIATE, I'm not really sure how many young kids would be interested in a slightly satirical comic about the game industry's corporate shenanigans anyway haha x3

Mine is at least 17+ ... at least that is how we settled to advertise it on Comixology.

I often compare it to The X Files, Twin Peaks and True Detective-- but in terms of audience rating, I'd say it's on the level of True Detective.

I don't know really, I see a lot worse in mainstream comics that I do in mine but I aim HOTWAB around 16+ just to be cautious. There's some scenes coming up in the next few issues which are suggestive and violent which I'll put nsfw tags on but I think they're pretty tame really :/

@alaingrey I kinda feel you. When I first decided to post here my intent was to keep the language clean, but during the writing process, I decided to tip it over a little. Trying to debate if when doing the print version(to sell at cons} next year, if I should clean up the language...we'll see.

Nocturne is definitely 16+ which might be kind of a surprise due to the colorful/cartoony/exaggerated art. It is a murder mystery after all and is gonna end up dealing with a lot of darker topics including death and murder (obviously), mental illnesses, suicide, alcoholism, sex, etc. There won't ever be any outright graphic scenes but it's definitely not going to be a child friendly story!

I'd say There Was a War is for late teenagers - I mean, I'm 16, I don't think I could really write something that wouldn't appeal to people my own age. It's got a fair amount of death and violence in it, which is why I specify late teens - I understand that some 13/14yos are pretty desensitized but I feel like I don't want to encourage that. Also, it's a lesbian tragedy and young gay girls shouldn't be exposed to that imo (lesbian happy endings, yes, tragedy, no)

Ultimately, though, I think the best I can do is warn about what's involved in the comic and let the young person decide if they can handle it - if they trust their parents enough, that'll come into it, but otherwise, I mostly trust the kind of people who'd read my comic at 13 to know how much is too much.

Cosmos Song is intended for the 17+ crowd. Usually if there's a more mature scene in the comic, I just put up the mature filter. I don't think that does anything to deter young people, but it covers my butt at least .

Volpino's Adventures is done for people of my age. I'm 28. so my target is about people around 25/35...I feel that I have to write to the people that, like me, feel like an outsider. I try
to write all the emotion I go through using my alter ego ( an orange fox)...

Friends or Lovers is PG13 for blood later on and mild bad language. Also because I'm 16, I probably can't make a PG17 comic - if then, I wouldn't (in theory) be allowed to look at my own comic!

Good question. I'd say something around 14+? Amaranth starts somewhat quiet and friendly, but at some point it's going to have blood, stronger language, and adult content when the story progresses. So it's not for every age group, but it's also not exclusivley 17+. I dunno to be honest.
I just write the story the way it works the best and mark pages as NSFW when necessary.

My webcomic Oni x Fox juggles action and comedy pretty frequently, though will contain more violence and battles as it progresses. The language contains no cursing, though! I'd probably rate it as 12+ now, maybe 14+ later for blood.
