What's the most toxic place where you've tried posting your art?

Facebook, for us in the Philippines, is filled with political bs and supporting the current president's ridiculous antics (people say our current president is the equivalent of Trump) XD it's annoying, but there has a lot of views and likes for my comic than anywhere else

Never had any experience with the Chilean national illustrator group, so i cant say anything about it. Sorry it turned out like that. Wish we could find a group of chill Chilean comic makers.

I saw a facebook group of Tapas in Spanish, but it was mostly self promotion from Tapas users. Not sure if people in general check it.

Haven`t had any experience with toxic sites. Mostly some youtube comments on a video i made saying me to "get a life" posted twice by the same user. I just ignored it.

Funnily enough, I've actually got a pretty decent response on both sites. But then again, I namely just show my art to my family and friends on Facebook and usually only post to art critique subreddits and either flew under the radar or got genuinely helpful feedback.

I'm fully aware this is my first comic and a big part of it is learning and such, so yeah the art has a lot to grow, the writing, paneling, etc etc I'm afraid they'll eat me alive.

Lol I just ask questions about a certain part of a piece and how to do it better and they do just tear you down. Also everything else on reddit is pretty much just as bad, fandom wise.

Deviantart! Actually it is not toxic for me, people just don't notice me at all. Same with Tumblr, Twitter. Maybe I need some friends on these places, or idk...
My viewership is mostly from facebook and maybe instagram. Fortunately never really got any toxic comments from anywhere. I was wondering I should post on Reddit but I still don't really understand how should I use it.. O.O

Just curious, which subreddits are you posting to specifically? I've actually had the exact opposite experience on Reddit; while there are always some toxic people (as they exist on every platform) all the feedback I've received has been well-meant. I've also found Reddit fandoms (with the exception of the huge ones) to be quite chill in comparison to Tumblr and the like. Depends quite a bit on how shit the mods are lol

The most toxic place I've posted my art is probably Deviantart; never had a terrible experience on any platform but I had a particularly uncomfortable experience there where someone tried to solicit me for webbed fingers/toes art (their fetish, apparently)...

What about the most toxic place where someone else posted my art? Pinterest. And they didn't credit me either. In fact, I've pretty much never seen a source on that website. It's is nothing but a no good den of art thieves. Oh, they piss me off so much. I avoid it religiously because even on the off chance I find something amazing, there's pretty much no chance I'll be able to find the creator.

As for the best place, for me, unexpectedly, Reddit. I like their comment system, where anyone who's too toxic usually gets buried under the downvotes. And you don't need an existing following to get noticed, either- I don't have much of a following on any site, but when I just posted a piece randomly on reddit I actually got a good amount of very positive comments : D.
Downside is you're more anonymous than anywhere else so it's hard to build up a following/ redirect people to other sites.

Definitely tumblr. I tried very hard to keep my feed pruned of politics and fandom but people within those circles follow you anyway. You get ludicrous stuff like people private messaging you to hate other artists based on nothing more than rumours, and if you didn't follow the bandwagon you were heavily ostracized. You're not allowed to make up your mind for yourself. I ultimately left because of the way I saw others being treated who caught the ire of the masses that day.

Other sites aren't without their poison but I'm able to mitigate it by knowing which areas to stick to. To be honest, I wish there was a perfect site for posting art. I'm spread between several sites because they have their own specific bonuses and multi-list of cons.

Facebook, in my opinion, is risky simply because of its reach. It's statistically inevitable that some malcontent is going to see your work and crap all over it just because Mom burned his Pop Tarts. I've also been sexually harassed via Facebook.

But I've had even worse experiences with certain specialized comicbook forums. Of those that still remain, I tread very carefully and rarely there. Whereas Facebook has a whole world of diverse people, some of these specialized forums have all the worst elements of fandom concentrated in one place. I've stopped posting in a couple of them because there was all the petty, vindictive drama of a cliquey prep-dominated high school, but the guys are mostly fortysomething year old creeps who think they know everything.

I love it here. It's kind of like we've got the diversity of Facebook, but we're also all creators still paying our dues, so we're more inclined to help each other out. The fanboys who think it's their masculine prerogative to harass female and other non-cis-male creators aren't here. (If they are here, they have the good sense to not cross paths with me.)

Shit man well said--the politics and rumours were the worst part of Tumblr imo and it just got particularly worse in fandoms. In the biggest fandoms there would be posts circulating once in a while along the lines of "EVERYONE BLOCK AND REPORT THIS ARTIST IMMEDIATELY THEY ARE A WHITE SUPREMACIST AND A PEDOPHILE" in an attempt to fuck up somebody's reputation stemming from a rumour that was blown way out of control. Skin tone looks a lil too light even though the character was clearly under a bright light? White-washing. Everyone block and report. I had a friend who woke up to death threats in her ask because she accidentally used the wrong pronoun addressing a popular artist.

A lot of it might be due to the nature of Tumblr, being built for reblogging rather than commenting (i.e. a platform to show, not to discuss/debate). But damn, the amount of misinformation being spread on that site. There was a popular post (~30k notes) misinforming people that the reason so many statues made in ancient Greece/Rome had broken noses was because those people were actually black and the noses would give it away, so the ~colonizers~ broke them off to systematically remove evidence of contributions by anyone aside from whites. Pissed a fuck-ton of people off in the classics "fandom" but the reactions were at the very least entertaining. I appreciate everything Tumblr tried to do for social justice but... eh... I'm glad it's mostly dead now.

facebook definitely, submitted to a contest once and i never gotten nitpicked as hard as i did there in my life. almost every comment was just vicious, like why are people on there so angry??

and tumblr to a lesser extent, but only when i post redesigns of steven universe characters or make a post that may vaguely imply that the show isnt a flawless masterpiece. the show's stans seem to think it automatically means you think youre better than the show's crew. one time i posted a pic of my gemsonas diamond insignia that ended up matching a shape on white diamond's dress with the emoji and i got swarmed with furious anons thinking i was accusing the crew of stealing my design

I haven't had much exposure yet but from looking at the comment section of local artists I follow, it's just filled with lots of toxic comments from people.

I had tumblr since 09 and stopped going on for the politics and the overly sensitive folks. It feels a little confining and depressing now. I did clean my list to follow blogs that don't post those things and now I can actually go on and not want to cry lol
