I don't really have a routine, and if I try a routine, for anything, I almost never stick to it. A few weeks ago, I'd decided to try writing my story for four-hour blocks every day. I just ate lunch, set up my laptop on an empty desk, turned off the music, and typed. Two days into this, I thought, "Wow! This is amazing!" Three days in, I crashed.
My favorite of all work routines was, first thing in the dark and early morning, getting to my empty desk and laptop, pulling out all my comic-drawing stuff, and then drawing as many comics as I could until some point between 10 and 12. Usually I'd also play symphonies or jazz fusion. After that, I'd take a shower, get dressed, and eat.
It REALLY helps me when I can do work early in the morning, and I typically find drawing less stressful than writing, which might explain why this routine went a little better than my recent attempt to write a chapter of a novella every day...a routine I broke after about three weeks, 3/4 through the story.
