When did you first get into drawing or story telling?

I've always been interested in storytelling I think. I wrote/rewrote fairytales when I was younger, I read a lot of books and drew all the time, even in classes. I loved Disney films, novels and fairy tales.

Drawing has been a huge part of my life always. It's a coping mechanism for me.

Around when I was 12 it really started impacting my life. I started making up my own characters, and a world for them to live in, and I wanted to tell their story (I'm still working on that story now, I'm 27 ^^. At first though I thought I wanted to be a novelist, but after trying to do storyboards I came to two conclusions: 1) It's much easier for me to express myself in images, 2) add speech bubbles and you have a comic! So I started making comics!

I was in about 4th-6th grade when I started art classes and met a friend and we started drawing a small comic of our hamsters. Then in 7th-8th grade, I started to get into anime and manga and reading Sailor Moon especially, I really liked that comic and started making my own comic that was basically the same thing. That was almost 20 years ago now.

I learned to read at a very early age through comics like The Beano and The Dandy. And I started drawing comics at the age of four. At six, I think I worked out that if you included speech balloons then other people could understand the story you were drawing, and at seven I worked out it was best to have a story that was worth understanding in the first place. At eight I discovered the Hodder Fawcett books of Peanuts reprints, and I knew I had found my vocation...

Since i was 2 or 3? i loved drawing as a kid, but didn`t trained my technique too much.

I was interested in drawing stories and games and then share them with my family and friends. They really loved them. We played my games for hours and they laughted a lot with my comics. I had to translate to them because my calligraphy was terrible. But we had lots of fun.

Deep down i always thought my path would involve making games and stories, but i didn`t know how or when.

when i was in grade school, year 3 i think, me and my friends loved drawing comics and other doodles on an a4 piece of paper. i wrote up some legends back then which i cant remember the story of lol. i think my comics were quite funny back then for me and my friends. some titles include: the king's lion, pirate adventures and i cant remember much but anyways. legends.

i got back to drawing comics in high school. i was 17 at that time and i was bored of class and endless studies i had to go through. so i drew comics while pretending to study and it was really funny too.

i wrote one called summer holiday picture diary that depicts "real life event" that happens to "me", a self insert character, during summer holiday. here's the plot:
I am watching a show on disney and notice how repetitive and boring it is. so i make a show myself that is so good that disney wants it removed as it will impact the business. Mickey mouse, who is head of disney sends the suicide squad, consisting of harley quinn, will smith(dressed up as deadshot), naruto and bong jun ho.

however before the suicide squad arrives i am kidnapped by the government, who suggests i insert a propaganda in my show so she has more supporters. i pretend to do so but escape using the president car. however i run into the suicide squad in a public bathroom and proceed to run.

some extra stuff happen but skipping. just know that the suicide squad gets attacked by the avengers

I go to my studio and notice all the crew are gone. and get ambushed by donald, goofey and minnie. they are Mickey's elite assassins and are way too powerful for me to fight alone.

meanwhile the surviving members of the suicide squad arrive at disney's head quarters but are killed by mickey for failing their mission. and mickey confronts me, who is locked up in their prison along with my crew. i attack mickey the moment i get my chance but am beaten badly. mickey talks about how shows are not made for fun but are instead made to rule inferior beings. i tell him that fun shows are more powerful then bad shows and one of my crew sneaks up behind him and stabs his throat, killing him.

the comic ends with a cliffhanger with the anime industry rising up at the absence of disney.

i tried remaking the comic but didnt finish it. the remake had more depth about the suicide squad members and had donald trump piloting a mech and a sentient horse sidekick but couldnt finish it for some reason. lol thinking about how i got into comics reminded me of the comic i made so yeah. it helped me overcome a lot of stress.

Hmm, I started both aspects really young. I drew a ton as a kid, and a lot of what I drew was like fan comics for cartoons and games I liked at the time, usually making my own characters and stories to take place in those worlds.

I distinctly associate 7th grade (or around age 12) as the point where I consciously realized that drawing was something that I liked to do so much so that I'd like to actively tackle it as a hobby and something that I'd like to put time into to get better at, though. That was when I started like studying anatomy more, color theory a little bit, trying to think up more original ideas, etc. Of course, a lot of it wasn't very good yet at middle school level, but that's where everything kind of spring boarded off from!

I've always been a big reader and when I was a kid I was into writing and drawing a lot, but as I got older I was discouraged from putting so much attention into something that "wouldn't be a real job." I remember doodling and writing stories in elementary school, though I never dared show them to anyone.

Been drawing, and writing stories for longer than I can remember. recently going through some boxes with my mom, ran across some homework from 2nd grade. I had drawn an underwater scene on it, all of them actually. Mom said The teacher used to complain she couldn't get a piece of paper from me that hadn't been drawn on. The box also contained stories I had written. They were atrocious rehashes of everything from Scoobie-do to Star Trek with my own twists dumped in. There were a few original ones, but they were all trash. I can truly say my writing has come along way.

Since my sister is very talented in drawing, of course I also drew a lot. (It's funny or sad, but only me kept drawing.) Sailor Moon and Dragon Ball was broadcasted here when I was kid, and it influenced a lot to draw more, because it had totally different art style as other cartoons (Of course at that time we did not know what anime is). And years later I saw Inuyasha, and started to find out what animes and mangas are... and I was pretty amazed by them. I found the first webcomic, and... I thought, "I want that too! I want others to have fun, and forget their everyday problems by reading my comics." So I started to draw my very first webcomic, Dreamcatchers when I was around 15-16, which I'm still drawing... XD

About writing... I also loved writing tales when I was kid, so that was my other loved hobby. So when I found comics, it was kinda obvious that I combining art and writing with comic making is my way. Well, it's still just my precious hobby, but I never regret that I started this. I still think that this is a "life-style", something special, what only those can understand who are in it, and it is cool!
I would like to write too, but... I can't do both. ^^;

Very similar story. I was 9 too. But I think I big part of why is did was also because to this day I consider 3rd grade was the worst year of my life. I had moved to a new city, had no friends and my family and financial situation wasn’t good. So that’s what I spent a lot of my time doing. After a year we moved back more broke than before but at least we were happy again:)
