I'm from Oregon (USA) from an area where we get plenty of weather aside from rain. Currently I am studying abroad in Japan.
Someone mentioned how it is self centered for people from the US to coin the term 'American' for themself, and I understand- but also you have to consider Canadians, Mexicans, Brazilians, etc. All obviously have their own specific terms. We could call ourselves a "United States of Americans" but it's a bit long... and sounds a little strange.
I do find it odd when Americans say they're from America rather than the US, though.
