Which is better? (speech bubbles!)

So.
I have been told that my spech bubbles are pretty big and page consuming. I know the problem pretty well, due to the diferent programms I use, I do the bubble first and then the text.
This is how my spech bubbles used to look like:

And thats the thing I have been doing the last few pages.

I like the style of it, but I am not shure if it´s better for the comik! So is it easy to read? Appealing?
Well It doen´t eat up all my hard worked on backgrounds I should decide now I guess which to continue in...

Speech bubbles just look better but I think what will help is narrowing your text box so that it's more vertical. As in reading it it more up and down instead of side to side. In short, you have a lot of room that you can compress the text boxes. Another thing that would help if you don't already is to have the text centered as well.

oh nah definitely have actual physical bubbles; if you have the text without a bubble holding it youll have all sorts of problems when it comes to legibility. bubbles enclose a piece of text and stop it from being lost in the background of your comic.

except, like, not left aligned like it is there. break up your text to make a rounder shape, or taller if you need it that shape to fit around the image.

Keep the bubbles! I really dislike text on straight background unless it's a quick quip or background dialogue that's not totally important. In addition to what @punkarsenic suggested, I also advise putting the text down first and then making a bubble to fit the text rather than the other way around.

BUT have the font be a consistent size. I would recommend writing the text, and then creating the bubble.

Bubbles are better as they are easier to read and are less likely to be swallowed up by the art. Also, I notice that you have some slight font changes in your text. I recommend that you stick to one font for dialogue consistently and only increase or bold it when you are adding emphasis to certain words.

Thanks guys! I decided to keep the buubles and slightly changed them. I am also working with a diferent programm now to do them and the letering so I am able to do the text first, it works (in tears) and is so much faster.
I never knew that the changed frontsize could distract my readers but now realized reading different comics that this is indeed kept the same for the most part! That´s some great Advice; I will try to stick to it.

The only issues I could say that could come with no word balloons is that even with the line going to who is speaking that particular part, if you have mulitiple lines being spoken in a panel it could get confusing. The word balloons at least help to contain and control who said what so there's no guesswork.

Speech bubbles, actually I think I would read better if the font size is a little bit bigger or you can try another font not so thin, with a little more of weight, like this one maybe?. But that's just an opinion.
