I like the expression of #1 (which is also #4) the most.

They look roughly equivalent to me, hard to say if one is much better than the other.

I do like the proportions of the facial features on the newer on better though! Exaggerating the features more (going full rounded on the chin, making the eyes larger, making the mouth larger), they make the whole face look more balanced.

In the older one, since the face/chin is a more realistic pointy shape, it looks quite a bit too wide (like 1.5x wider than one would expect) and the mouth seems too small as well.

So I think there are definitely subtle improvements on the new one after all~

Overall, I like the Ray's (?) expression more, but both drawings look like having approximately the same quality.

To be honest i think the second one is indeed a sign of improvement! The lines are smoother and the whole drawing style looks more personal than the first try in my opinion

they’re both different artstyles so it’s hard to say?
not as in. more stylized or different approach- as in one is ‘normally’ drawn and the other is a chibi drawing

as a general, they both look very heavily referenced (if i’m wrong call me out!) so my immidiate reaction is mostly “try drawing without looking at a direct reference of what you’re drawing. i.e. try drawing a “new piece” rather than “copying”

all that aside, for improvement i’m gonna agree with the second piece is better since the face “closes” where in the first piece it seems a bit wide with an odd angle which gives the imporessiin there’s no “oval face shape” behind.
by the way, using a basic sketch / skeleton can help you fix that if you’re strill struggling with it (and generally is useful i don’t think i know anyone who doesn’t use a basic sketch)

Yes. I've firstly played the RPG-maker game, than have watched the anime adaptation. But I still like the game more.

Thank u and I have tried a sketch and it does work but I don’t really have a creative mind, so I didn’t trace it I just used a model and it doesn’t really look like what I based it off from but okie!

Hard to tell... O.O Actually a little bit hard to compare. They are different categories. Almost like when you want to decide which food is better? Ice cream or carbonara spagetti....?
But if I must to decide which is better... Hmmm... Chibi drawing looks a little bit more confident. So I would vote for that one.

ah maybe.? but i think the fact i could tell is proof enough you should branch into your own art
plain illustration doesn’t have much to do with creativity, it’s all muscle memory and training, so don’t worry too much! i’m the most uncreative person ever too lol

The second image looks more consistent with a chibi style. While as the first image gives a more awkward sense of proportion regarding the chin, eyes, and overall facial features. The second image has more balance.
