Which shading style do you prefer? (I need some help deciding something)

I've been testing out a slight change in shading style and I'd like to see what people prefer more!

I was mainly concidering toning down the redness around the face quite a bit because I've noticed it can be a little distracting on some panels, but I wasn't sure if this was the right choice.

First style (original:)

Toning down the blush can make the art appear less softly shaded. Idk, that's why I'm asking for a second opinion.

Second style:

I will note that this is a horror comic, so it's allowed to look a little more dreary as well

I prefer the second one because the faces are easier to see for me.

I do think the red looks nicer on the redder backgrounds tho. But it is maybe too red in the sky panel.

Maybe switch it up depending on the panel? I do a bit of that with some colors.

The red just looks strange, like blushing to me. It does bring some warm to the characters but I like the flats better.

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm okay I can’t say why I feel this way but I like the first one. It might lean more to my own style and that’s why I prefer it, but I would say if you tone it down somewhere maybe half way between example 1 and 2

I prefer the second. The reds do look quite a bit like blushing or embarrassment to me in the first one, and I also prefer the more desaturated look to the characters' faces in the second.

If the red is toned down and concentrated in the cheek area it could work. As of right now, 2 is better.

I prefer the 2nd, it's easier to see the faces!

The second one is better and adds more depth to the faces. It reads more like a shadow and it also shows where the light is hitting the character's faces.

I know adding bush to people's faces was often a trick people used to make their characters look like they have more life to them, but it should never just be focused on just the cheeks ad nose. If you wanna use that trick again try adding dark red shadows, or color to only people's ears lips, and fingers.

I like the second one, especially since the shadows look more grey instead of a dark orange so they look a little unnatural, for a horror comic that's good and adds more of that dreary feeling you're looking for
