Why are you doing comics?

What do you want out of your comic? Fame? Career? Hobby? Or you’re just doing it because everyone else is doing it?

Me: I actually love drawing more than writing. And it’s showing in my comic due to the lack of dialogue. I want to challenge myself to see what I could do as an artist to make my character move, fight and act like human. I know, strange but I’m so curious if I could do it!

It just feels natural for me to do I've been creating stories and characters and drawing comics about them since I was a kid It's a hobby for me but not really a casual hobby, if that makes sense. I can't say that I'm drawing just for myself, as I could never finish any story in the past which I didn't show to others. I don't really care for fame or money, but I still want others to read it, as readers' reactions are actually the best part of drawing comics for me.
I'm also writing stories, but it just feels different. I mean, there are some stories that I know that they have to be written because I wouldn't be able to show them in a form of a drawing. And there are also stories that I wouldn't be able to describe in text as good as a simple drawing would.

Not to sound overly dramatic or anything, but (I'm going to anyway lol), Drawing, and storytelling are in my blood. I literally could not live life without coming up with plot ideas, characters, arcs etc.. I just naturally do it, and I have as long as I can remember. I do hope to be able to make a living at making comic books, and graphic novels, however, even if that never happens, I will still continue to create until I have no more ideas (which is not going to happen for a very long time, if at all). Sometimes I laugh thinking about a 85 year old me making comics, it's a pretty funny picture actually.

It´s my passion like making music but I also want to make money with my passion.
At the moment I´m making money with music, illustrations and other creative work.
I would also do it when I wouldn´t make money with it

That's something I'm concerned about! I feel like it's a core part of who I am but what happens when I get too old to draw Wacom better invent some kind of mind controlled drawing device by the time I'm 85

Because I like drawing characters and telling stories. I'm doing this because I'm passionate about it. Making comics gives me the opportunity to make my stories the way I wanted. Comics are hard to make, but I enjoyed it. I'd take making comics over working on animated movie or developing a video game which are very stressful.

I heavily enjoy making fun of the old junk I made when I was younger. I'm just making more junk for my future self to make fun of.
Also, I just really really want to finish my comic, even though my plot ideas and character personalities are all over the place. Thinking about the day that I can write something hella cool like "fin" and it'll actually be the end and I never have to think about it again, instead of just dropping it and wondering if I'll regret it one day motivates me just a little bit

My comic is bait.

I enjoy reading about discussions on certain topics, hence I want people to talk more about the topics that interest me.

So if I write a comic about said topics and it leaves an impression on people, they might discuss it with each other, producing some delicious, juicy discussions for me to read. Furthermore, others might be inspired by my work and include some aspects of it in their own, which increases the probability that their work is something I'll enjoy consuming.

That's the real reason why I create. Not because I enjoy creating, or to make money, or even for personal fame (though it is appealing), but to bait people into producing content for my own consumption :]

I'm writing an anthology manga for my novel "Red Shift" and will probably do the same eventually for my other novel "Mega-Egypt". I've always been a huge fan of manga; collecting them is a source of happiness for me. When I make someone feel what I feel when reading manga - happiness, inspiration, lucid contemplation - then I've done my job. Also, I just enjoy sharing my ideas because I love creating.

I've always wanted more content of the things I love or have wanted them to end differently.

But the biggest reason for me wanting to work on comics instead of novels - They are more fun. Writting long text can be boring as you get caught up in the details a lot. With comics I can finish plotting it out and then thumbnail it. After that I can show the details with art.

It always has to do with my lack of attention. I'm always interested in something new, I wanna work on that, but then I find something else and I stop. I get bored from text. Comics have my attention a lot more. I get the dopamine rush after I finish a page, but it isn't as rewarding with novels.

I have been drawing comics I'd say for maybe 16 or 17 years here and there and I have to say, I've never gotten tired of it. Sure, trying to get out there and have your work read can be frustrating. I work a full time job and raise kids too so my output is very low but when I sit down at my desk all of that washes away. It is only me and the work. The rest of the world does not exist in that time.
It challenges me. It calms me. It sustains me. I have not gone a single day without thinking about it in all of these years. Simply the act of working and the act of reading, that is all. Comics have never stopped giving to me and I to it.

If no one were to have ever read a single page of mine or ever know my name, I will die with pen pressed to paper all the same.

Well, for me I've been thinking about these stories and characters for years! I love drawing and writing so comics works out for me as a mix of both

I remember completing the comic script for my current comic and feeling so proud of myself. I finally had a complete story written out and I absolutely love all the ideas, events and character moments to the point I still go back and re-read them because I'm so excited to finally illustrate them one day!

For me, I want to one day be able to hold my comic as a printed volume, and read my own series. I write about things that interest me so having something that I know I made really makes me happy. My motivation is mainly because I love doing it. Seeing my writing come to life through my art is insanely cool.

I do also get motivated by other people enjoying the comic as well. Having my readers notice things about the story that I've planned and psychoanalysing my characters makes me happy because it means my intentions are clear to the readers, and they are interested enough to pay attention to details. Having people love my comic is definitely a big motivator, but it's not my only one.

I love the medium. I've been reading comics and watching cartoons since I was a kid. I dream of soon becoming a well-known cartoonist!

I'm doing comics because that's my work, it's probably the only ability I've developed with enough confidence to dedicate daily hours to it and get paid for it, as well I got into this job because I couldn't find any other "normal" job.

I think I can't call it entirely my passion since I don't make my own stories or character designs, I draw for others.
