Why do Webtoon's links look like they were programmed by a highschooler?

Webtoon is the biggest webcomic platform on the market, but their links look like malware. Tapas keeps it simple and memorable. I don't even have to paste the link, you can easily type it in the search bar. You can't do that with webtoon links.

I don't know if Webtoon cares, but it would be nice if they'd tidy up their links. If Tapas can have nice links, Webtoon has no excuse.

It does look nasty. I can point to a couple of things which have to be there.

/en - It's a dual language website, this sends you to the English side.
title_no_12345 - This could definitely be made to look nicer, but the title number is there because there can be more than one comic with the same title on WEBTOON. Tapas just makes you choose a different title.
challenge - I think this indicates a Canvas title. WEBTOON originals don't have it.

I'm with you, though. Even if the size of the site does mean it requires a slightly longer URL, they could certainly make it look way nicer than it does at the moment!

This actually is so true! I HATE wt's links, because while posting updates to my socials it's only wt link is too long to be copypasted, so I gotta reopen page to fully copy it again. It's so frustrating, we gotta start a petition for this.

Ha, you're right. They even do that with their paid series.

Maybe use the website TinyURL to shorten the link.

This part seems the silliest to me. I don't know the whole history behind it, but I seem to recall and found an online article dating back to 2014 announcing the launch of the "Webtoons Challenge League" which I believe used to be their branding for free-to-read titles? They've since gone through at least 2 different changes to the current Canvas name so... maintaining the word "challenge" in the urls, even for newer series, just absolutely doesn't make sense

I have no idea what it would entail to either change it to a more modern "canvas" (which at least would tell readers familiar with today's webtoon app useful information) or remove it entirely since they already have a "title no" index for the series, but man that's a long word to just insert into a weblink while being several years outdated lol

However, they don't compare to the new links to images on deviantart. they went from a simple link that stated the title and creator of the artwork, to this huge paragraph of gibberish that looks like a shady link that would take you to an adult site infested with viruses. Nastiest BS I have ever seen.
