Because as a kid I had this thing where whenever I watched something or played something I liked, I was always like "I want that". It was not enough that I bought the toys, I wanted my own property that could stand toe-to-toe against the thing I admire. It was this weird mindset where I was like, "I want to make something that's competitor worthy. Something that isn't derivative."
As a result, I managed to develop this ability where I was able to get inspired by something and then I create something radically different. For example, I wanted my own Evil Dead; I ended up with a light hearted muppet comedy story that talks about the dangers of consumerism. It scratched my itch :v
THAT and also I'm tired of all the nihilistic, cynical shows on air (Your Rick & Morty's, Your Family Guy's, The Boys etc.). I want to create material that shows the dark and cruel sides of the world, but with characters that love each other. Basically, I wanna show a relative's point of view. He's struggled to an INSANE degree, but somehow, despite what these shows have to say and despite what these shows are telling their audience, he managed to remain optimistic/spiritual without wearing rose tinted glasses, believing forgiveness is the ultimate weapon. I think people should hear his stories. I'm just tired of these shows saying "Give up" when my relative has gone through the impossible.
Also speaking of nihilistic and cynical, I just want to create material that isn't blasphemous religious wise. People can write whatever they want. I'm not one of those crazies who'll clutch their pearls and say "YOU CAN'T SAY THAT!". I just want to even out the playing field if you know what I mean. I just think we have too much stories on Webtoons and Tapas that have people battling angels, dethroning God, dating angels, etc., etc.
I'll admit, that stuff can get interesting (Hellblazer is one of my favorite comics of all time) but if Biblical stuff is cool as people say, I'd rather play it straight as much as possible than try to add in my own interpretations that'd offend people who believe in this stuff. WITHOUT being preachy.
That's why I wanted to became a writer.
