So I've been working on a fantasy world for a comic called Drachenseele for quite a while now only to realizer that I'm gonna need to rework a good portion of the concepts of my world for one reason or another and as I was thinking about how and where to rework some of the stuff I began to realize something...
Which is more important? Writing a story first and then world building around said story? Or world building and then writing a story around that world building? Or something in between?
Because I've realized at the end of the day, I want to write a science-fantasy story about an amnesiac girl who meets an ancient dragon from times long past and goes on a quest to save the world with themes of letting go of the past and environmentalism along with tokusatsu elements reminiscent of Super Sentai, Ultraman, and Kamen Rider as well. But I also want to write a world that makes sense regarding all those elements as well.
So how do you all do it? Worldbuilding first and then story? Story before worldbuilding? Or a mixture of both?
- World Building first, then story
- Story first, then world building
- Somewhere in between/Other
