Abby from The Prince and I. I hope it follows the rules.
"What is that?" Zach peered up into the trees to where Abby was pointing.
"I don't see anything," he told the woman.
"Look closer...see et?"
Is that...the boy scrunched his eyes together. He had never seen that kind of creature before. A boggle? No, they're bigger. What could it possibly be?
"Is this a new find?" Malak asked as he whipped out a scroll of paper and began to write furiously. "Discovered a new species...standby for a description," he muttered to himself.
Abby rolled her eyes skyward. "Who knows we can't even see et well."
"Hmm..." Zach saw the creature stir and then a most unearthly sound came from it.
"What the..." All three of them looked up in astonishment as the animal, or whatever it was, began to cry and writhe around in pain.
"He's going tah fall!" Abby exclaimed, "Quickly! Catch him." The three friends scrambled around the tree, trying to get in a good position and completely missed the creature as it tumbled to the ground.
"Oh, dear," Zach reached the thing first and peered down at it. It was definitely something he had never seen before. Nothing that he had read in books came to mind either.
"Poor thing," Abby cooed she reached out her hand but Malak stopped her.
"He could be poisonous," he whispered.
"Poison doesn't hurt me," the woman shrugged off her cloak and her hands began to glow a bright green color.
"Wait. What are you doing?" Zach asked.
"Taking et to our infirmary."
"To study it?"
"Ets hurt we have tah help et."
"What? Seriously? We have no idea what that thing is," the boy looked down with a frown, the creature was still in pain but at least it stopped crying.
"Exactly why we need to study it," Malak began to scribble away as Abby bent down and gathered the animal up in her cloak.
"Did it break any bones?" Zach asked.
"No. The fall wasn't that big. I think it's somethin else. Kind of heavy." She placed a glowing green hand on the creature, to protect herself from any poison. "It's a strange thing."
"Let's go then it's getting dark."
...........
Later that evening the three stood over the creature as it lay on a table.
"Hold the mouth open," Zach instructed Malak, prodding it.
"Hey!" Abby said sharply as the animal whined. "Be careful."
"Its teeth are very sharp," Malak muttered, "How many...one...two...do you have a pen?"
Abby waved him away. "Can't yah see it's in pain?"
"We could be famous if we discovered a new species," Malak wondered to himself as he studied the creature which became still, "Imagine it, even the elves would respect us."
"I don't think that's how it works..." Zach frowned and then held out his hand, that was wreathed in grey flames, over the animal, "there's something wrong..." He closed his eyes in concentration, "it's dying."
"W-we can't have that...there's still more to learn from it. Just dissecting it is no good," Malak exclaimed.
Abby glared at the wizard. "We will do no such thing..." the healer turned to Zach. "Move. I can help it."
"Perhaps we should name it...will Woggle do? how about Snaps..."
"Shut up Malak," the boy moved aside to let Abby through and the woman carefully reached out her hand over the animal. Its body twitched in pain. The woman closed her eyes and green flames covered her hand.
"Let's name it Spots," Zach suggested to the downfallen wizard throwing an arm around his shoulder. "How does that sound?"
"B-but it doesn't have an--"
"Spots it is." The boy watched as Abby bent over the curious looking creature, now covered in a green glow, whispering words of comfort.
The chestnut haired wizard wrung his hands. "Will this work. What if he's immune? Allergic to magic? or humans?"
"This is Lightwielder power. It's not just magic. And she's a healer...Spots should hopefully be fine, and if not we could always dissect it," Zach cheerfully answered.
"Over my dead body," the woman muttered to herself. Don't worry Spots. I will heal you.
