I think it all depends on the kind of mood you're going for regarding the scene.
Example, if tears are heavy they can make a sound (e.g., tip or tap), but they could be silenced, muffled sounds too. If they are supposed to be seen as ridiculous, the sobs could be a bunch of boo hooo hooooo!
Same goes for the feet. Spooky footsteps could go clank clank clank! and more melancholic ones could go tap tap tap depending on the intensity or mood.
Nothing is set in stone imo and it all depends on the aspect of the scene you want to enhance.
Additionally, I think breaking the codes and going "boohoohoo" when the crying is supposed to be dramatic can create some more complex yet interesting effects if you want to experience stuff. Perhaps another thing to consider is writing a bunch of sfx for a specific scene and showing them to your friends/family to know what they get from them, what sort of feel. If that makes sense 
P.S. yep my written demonstrations are probably a bit cheesy but they're just examples haha
