IMO, depends on the overall intended tone of the story, but I feel like it could work really well if it was sudden and surprising. A lot of times catching the reader off-guard makes a lasting impression (just include trigger warnings in your comic description, etc). -goji

Idiots start mob war...

definitely agree with the above!! try thumbnailing your panels a few times before finalizing, to see which composition fits the mood you're trying to convey the best. your paneling comes off a bit cluttered and hard to decipher, especially considering the amount of detail in the figures. also, try d…

personally i think any romantic trope cAN be done right if all of the characters involved are developed individually and the potentially "problematic" (nasty buzzword) elements of their interactions are addressed--it's just a matter of whether the creator takes the effort or has the knowhow that s…

"Idiots break city." But, since we're still working on the pilot episode right now (and that's technically disconnected from the main story)--"Idiots lose sandwich." -g

dude monsters are rAD -g

Thanks for clarifying this @joannekwan and potoo definitely hard for me to understand legalese. I'm still wary and I'm waiting for Tapas to come forward and clarify tho

TBH for me it's less about what they intended and more about what they have the capability to do now that they have switched around their ToS and retroactively applied First Right of Refusal. You're getting on people for "flipping out" but imo it's perfectly reasonable for creators to be wary? I get…

I would like to add that my partner and myself came to Tapastic about a month ago after joining in a skype call with Michael Son in which it was made expressly clear to us that Tapas creators retain full and complete rights to their work. I still need time to fully understand the updated ToS but thi…

can't speak for candel, but here's some from me! i recently posted on tumblr about my art improvement. http://parlortrickscomic.tumblr.com/post/160674790725/so-heres-a-crazy-fact-i-actually-drew-this-darn -goji (tapas won't let me upload images for some reason rip)

it's completely nonsexual! everybody's uncomfortable for the first couple days, but you get used to it--and NO class has helped me out more than life drawing. it is so hecking crucial my man and it's fun, too! -goji

wow, your art style is so friendly and inviting! i love the colors -goji

This is all really useful since I've been trying to figure out how to better utilize twitter for YE A R S I'm glad for the opportunity to connect with the tapas community!! (i'm https://twitter.com/Candelantern btw, my partner/co-author is https://twitter.com/thatonegojimun, we both post art a…

Thanks!! This is really useful! On reflection, I really think building relationships with the following we already have is more important to me than getting more subscribers. I want to encourage people to give us feedback, tell us what they think, etc, so we can improve and be more engaged with t…

Thank you, this is all really helpful and encouraging! It's easy to start focusing on numbers and sometimes I take to the forum to remind myself there are more important things. -c

On that note, what are some suggestions you guys have for engaging your readers/developing greater interest from the subscribers you already have? I'd love to get people more involved in our comic but I'm not 100% sure how to go about it. In other words, ways to turn your subscribers from a reader…

and thank you @ everyone else too! we've just been worried about this because eventually we're hoping to maybe turn comic creation into a career? (or at least worthy of some pizza money) it's hard to remember that these things take time -g

thank u! this little comment is actually really encouraging -g

Co-author of Parlor Tricks here. I'm of course super grateful for all the subs we've gotten, and the nice comments and encouragement, but between our launch of the comic a month ago and now we've lost a generous helping of subscribers (it is rising slowly, though), and we can't help but be a litt…

PATIENCE I'm a writer by default, so slowing down my storytelling process to draw and render an entire scene visually can be excruciatingly time-consuming. Sometimes I have trouble and need to stop myself from rushing through lol. It's not that I don't like drawing (I love it!) it's just that typi…

not technically a reboot since the comic is still very new (under a month old, in fact), but i've been continuously editing the older scenes to be more in line with traditional comic format. example from last night: https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B7lDGNsGOP1-dlV3NEl5UXoxYlk/view?usp=sharing this w…

i hate to be the person to say this, but art is a really time-consuming occupation and it's a little presumptuous to ask for such a large, open-ended amount of unpaid labor.... -goji

i used this tablet for a while, and it served me pretty well!

yeah that was what i meant it's really cool to see the progression! i'm super looking forward to seeing where u go from here -goji

o wow! i kinda just found this thread and read through it and from this and reading your comic i'd say you've DEFINITELY been improving. nice job!!!! -goji

i can't speak for candel, but for me personally i have a really hard time with pacing if you let me run loose by myself i'll draw a panel for EVERY change in expression and eVERY nonverbal tic, because i tend to think of comic planning more like storyboarding an animatic when they're two very differ…

honestly i think it's always worth it to sacrifice model adherence for the sake of expressiveness i'd go with #1! -goji

goji here! we're definitely going to be thinning the narration after we go through the pilot backlog. it's our most consistent issue and it's one we've had personally for a long time, but it's just not worth it at this point to rework this pilot much more than we already have-- we don't want to spen…
