By day, I’m a gene therapy scientist, so I like to draw inspiration for many of my stories from science, even if they end up being completely fictitious and fantastical. By night (and way too early morning) I’m a fantasy and science fiction writer. I’ve written dozens of short stories over the years and am currently working on my debut novel.
My serial novel NPC Academy has finally launched! Read here: https://tapas.io/episode/3154747

I know every web publishing site has its own specialties and Tapas tends to lean more on the romance/fantasy romance side... But there are also things like TBATE and Solo Leveling that have been really successful here. I had posted a chapter of my novel on the forums a while back and a few who rea…
Have you ever wondered where NPCs come from? Or where they go after they've been slaughtered or finished dolling out the latest seemingly random quest for 35 wolf pelts? It turns out they have their own lives in a nexus world that connects all others. And they don't just hop through World Gates to…
Everyone knew slimes were the absolute worst of all Monsters. Surefire F-tier in all categories. Attack strength: Horrid. Defensive acumen: Putrid. Stamina: What stamina? Speed: Snail-like. Skills: Essentially non-existent.
Congrats!
A slime goes to school
Thank you friends! I thought as much, but was having trouble confirming on my own.
Is there any sort of exclusivity if I were to publish my novel on Tapas? I've already started posting it elsewhere, but feel like the community here might enjoy it as well.
Strongly agree here! The best way to do a hard magic system is to have the characters learning more about it as they go so it leaves some awe and discovery for the reader. In my opinion, the possibilities (in soft or hard magic) can lead to epic moments and awesomeness, while the constraints (in h…
A good, memorable villain to be needs a few things to me. First, there needs to be something iconic/interesting/unique about them, which boosts the memorable-factor. But just having that isn’t enough to make them a good villain in my eyes. They need to also have appropriate motivation and realistic,…
I love worldbuilding! Definitely one of my favorite aspects of writing fantasy and sci fi. In terms of planning ahead or making it up as you go… It depends a little bit on how you plan to post your novel/comic. If you plan to post as you write (or only a few chapters ahead), I’d definitely recomm…
This is a great question... I feel like like I don't have enough comforting things in my life. No wonder I'm always so stressed.. I guess it would be walking outside in nature and just actually paying attention to my surroundings with no agenda, no rush to get somewhere.. Just taking in nature and o…
For my novel, this is not my final cover, but a reference sheet and mockup I made recently. I am having my cover commissioned and it's currently in the sketch phase, so I wanted to get feedback on if the general design, placement, empty space, etc works. Title font is also just a placeholder. [imag…
Just my daughter being her standard adorable self ️
Congrats on being almost done! A huge accomplishment! That’s awesome you get that feeling that the story is being told to you. Definitely the opposite for me (which may be partially why I’m so critical of my own storytelling…). When I finished first drafts of novels in the past I remember feeling …
Yeah, it's unfortunate. Sometimes people just want to get the last word in too... Sadly, often the best thing we can do in these scenarios as creators is just say "thank you for the feedback" or not reply at all and leave no room for further discourse. If they are continuously commenting negative …
There are a few different types of criticism I see online. There’s good constructive criticism by people who genuinely want to teach, which is actually helpful. There’s constructive criticism by someone who has zero interpersonal skills and delivers the feedback harshly (which hurts, but can s…
Do you think dishwashers would be classified as birds, reptiles, or monotremes??
Jurassic Park flashbacks
I never even considered it could have been anything other than a chicken egg! Another layer to the mystery!
Yesssss! Redwall is what first made me aspire to be an author.
"The dragons are a problem." [:blank:]
That would go perfectly with the whiskey decanter I have saved in my amazon cart but will never purchase [image]
Tough crowd... [image]
Beer always cures my social anxiety. It's a wonderful invention. The other day we gave away most of our liquor cabinet to my sister because we haven't touched it in years and are even less likely to drink any going forward with kids now. She walked away with hundreds of dollars of alcohol and our …
Yessss, I like this justification. Also... I can't even remember the last time I had more than 2 drinks in an evening. That's really sad. #adultingiguess
There's always juicy drama hiding somewhere! Also... NAILED IT! [image]
I feel like even I could draw an egg. How hard can it be? Maybe we should form a Procrastinators Anonymous support group....
I feel like dishwasher the egg is the beginning of a new comic....... I'm just here procrastinating from a critical report I need to finish before the end of day tomorrow... The usual.
Haha! Yeah, becoming famous or even recognizable isn’t really on my radar of fears since it’s so unlikely. Personally, I’m talking about smaller, more attainable successes. If the agent I’ve been talking to miraculously offers to represent my (non-Tapas) novel… what happens? I actually have to s…
I’ll do some brainstorming around the ideas I initially have. Typically thinking about how I can create conflicts that will prevent the characters from reaching their goals, mess with the status quo of the world, etc. It really depends on what ideas you currently have, but in the end conflict drives…
