I played Earthbound too for the first time a couple years ago and it’s amazing! So funny, so weird, just a great experience One of my first memories playing a video game was playing co-op Kirby’s Dream Land 3 and Crystal Shards on Virtual Console with my cousin. Good times. I’d love to get an a…
I’m like you where whatever I’m listening to doesn’t usually correlate with whatever I’m making in the moment. Sometimes music gives me new ideas. I have a whole story about a robot that I was stuck with until I listened to Touch by Daft Punk, and now so much of that story is based off of what I fel…
I don’t have any encouraging words to add, I’m just happy to read all these replies. I’m also pretty young. Even if I’ve “gotten ahead” starting comics, I’m just starting out with stuff like learning piano. Then I see my friends making music with hundreds of thousands of plays that get used in re…
Whenever I read superhero comics I usually go Marvel. I just like more of the characters. I’ve only watched 4 MCU movies and Wonder Woman so I don’t have much of an opinion about the cinematic universes But the original Teen Titans show got me into superheroes and I still watch more DC shows than Ma…
Lots of good resources to check out! I’ve never even heard of half of these platforms before today. I can’t say I’ve ever gotten much windfall posting literally anything online. A bit of a bummer, but it’s never been my primary focus. I’ve found the most success promoting with Instagram. I post a…
I had to continue the Morshu dialogue [image]
Yeah, pretty much everything darthmongoose said. There’s so much one can do with shape and size of panels and amount of panels per page to influence pacing and tone. I’d also like to add to her point that using lots of panels of the same size (or the same layout of panels) influences the “tempo” o…
Oooh I really like that second paragraph. I love reading romantic stuff with lots of imagery like that ️
As for me... I have this Pokémon comic I did on the side in 2018, while I was only about a year (give or take a hiatus) into my main comic. I still really like a lot of the panel compositions, …
Oooh that messed me up too. I would figure out the dimensions for one place and make the promo stuff in that dimension only even if I planned to post it on multiple platforms
Finally we’re appreciating salt in this thread You might say...salt is a way of life [image]
Pretty much what HippieGhost said. My comic isn’t new anymore, but after I post a new episode I unplug and do something completely different so I don’t think about it. You’ll probably always have some nerves about putting new things out in the world. It gets easier the more you do it. Good luck
I got diagnosed with ASD about a month ago actually. I’m still not super knowledgeable about how it affects me outside of some executive functions, but I’m learning more. Definitely coming back to this thread to see others’ experiences I don’t think I have any interests as intense as how I’ve hear…
Well, I’d never say don’t ever shade with black. Especially if you’re making something in a traditional comic book style. Hatching and spot blacks are ubiquitous. But if you’re trying to go for most other styles, it’s a very unnatural color to shade with. There’s not too many situations where black …
I don’t really care how long your challenges were. I’m glad they were beneficial to you at all! It’s so gratifying to get something like Inktober or Huevember done. You’ve committed all this extra time to something and the results are plain to see. And sometimes all you need is that spark to get m…
I’d definitely love to play chained cooldown in a game. I’d like to read short circuit, but I don’t think it could be completely devoid of horror if that’s what you’re after. There’s high stakes in that idea. Maybe a character could be in a situation where they can’t afford to get hit anymore but al…
I’ve seen your stuff in the sketch-a-day thread! Even a chill challenge like that is great as long as you’re getting something out of it
Ooh I’ve heard about that one! Seems like a lot of drawing to do in such a short time. That’s great that you learned how to keep going with something until it’s finished! Anything that can help with doing something consistently is a win in my book. And the fact that you learned more about how you wo…
On Jan 1st, I challenged myself to draw a monkey every day for the whole year. Didn’t matter what else I did if was a monkey in there. I had a few reasons for doing such an arbitrarily long, dumb thing: The dragons in my comic are most heavily based off of monkey anatomy, so I can indirectly g…
I mean 50 pages is better than 0 lol. At least it's all there and you can edit it now!
I really like the song! The production steals the show—never thought I’d hear flamenco trap from Nas X, but I’m glad we’re in that world. The music video is insane too, I’ve rewatched it so many times just to keep piecing it together
You could have different Automata characters with their own views on the cult. Maybe one of them was a part of the cult and left because they found out about the shady things that they do, but they still want more freedoms.
Oh nice. Well then yes I do like jazz, quite a lot It’s so freeform. It can swing, it can be smooth, it can be bluesy, it can have all this nonsense with chord extensions and irregular meter. So many of my other favorite genres and albums stem from jazz. I’ve always liked it—I essentially grew up w…
Oh is this a meme thread? I really wanna talk about jazz
I have so many of those cringy stories back when I was writing novels XD Here’s a snippet from a Pokémon fanfic I did with some immaculate dialogue: I asked him if he understands what the results of the Great Pokemon War were, but he was staring out the window at the sunset. “Look at this,” he …
...I would read that
This sounds fun! I think I can come up with a sketch by tonight or tomorrow ^^
Today’s not the greatest day, but I got out of the house and visited my speech therapist :))
Wow that’s awesome. I didn’t know that’s how it worked, and it’s great when stuff like that is so applicable across multiple categories. Kudos to you for finding that out!
That’s understandable! It’s cool to see the games you already like in a whole new light. Barrier skip is great too, the Wind Waker community has put in so much time and effort to find out how to do that at all
Oh he definitely will sometime soon. His sum of best was like 2:56 something I think? Something wild :0
