So I have read the Eye of Argon and honestly it's not that remarkably bad when compared to a lot of people's first attempts at writing as teens. Go on any fanfiction site and you'll find plenty of similarly poorly written works by teenagers. Eye of Argon is mostly well known because it was written a…
I haven't read most of the thread. Despite the weird little bugs I'm very glad the site is no longer visually indistinguishable from webtoons. But issue I have right now is if you go to info page for a comic the "creator" info pulls the info text from the ink donations page. And on my ink donatio…
I assume you mean for selling commissions? Personally I use a site called commiss.io, and am pretty happy with the service. It has tools for tracking your commissions and messaging with clients. They do take a small fee out of payments but it's pretty comparable to using something like paypal.
They all contain "amzza" That'd be the word I'd blacklist first. sure they could change the URL but that's more complicated than just changing a random word.
If there were a way for us to blacklist comments containing specific words it would probably help, since all the spam comments are more or less identical. I'm kinda surprised it's not already an option.
I think this is the kind of thing you have to take on a case by case basis. Sometimes I will still enjoy art by people who have said or done bad things. Maybe I don't think the Bad Thing was that bad, or that they've sufficiently apologized, maybe they're dead and can't hurt anyone anymore, or ma…
I have my own website. I've had one since I was a teen. You don't. You'll still need social media to get people onto your site in the first place. Having a domain isn't promotion in itself. It does give off a sense of professionalism though and a good way to aggregate all of your content. Al…
I'm not saying people shouldn't like them, I'm saying they're inherently not fancy and being snobbish about them makes no sense. Chill out.
As long as you're not plagiarizing or directly copying something too closely you're fine. Premises aren't ever 100% unique, it's what you do with it that matters.
Personally I'm not a big fan of ketchup, it's too sweet for most things imho. I like it on omurice and that's about it. I try not to police other people's food choices, but I can understand arguments for leaving condiments off foods that are very high quality (e.g. if it's really fresh produce or …
I haven't noticed anything like that. Could be you just had a stroke of luck and happened to get seen by a bunch of new people.
I did a quick whois lookup and they are in fact based out of Toronto they're registered and hosted with google. The rest of the info is private. It may not be a scam but it looks to me like a startup that will likely evaporate once they run out of money. I've seen sites like that before they usually…
I don't think there's any official rules against this sort of thing, it's just rude. I haven't had any comments like this myself yet. But I did get a DM here on tapas that was very similar near the beginning of the month. Sad thing was their comic was decent and I might have subscribed if they'd s…
Thing about a comic like Life in Hell and this sort of documentary is the kinds of drawings you see tend not to use gesture drawings or much underdrawing at all. You're watching a guy who draws in a very particular abstracted way draw characters he's drawn a million times in neutral poses. Of course…
Yeah I draw pretty fast usually and 1-3 hours for a page of finished artwork is absurdly fast. I usually spend that long on just the coloring.
Oh this is basically what my comic is.
It's hard to give concrete advice without seeing examples of your own drawings and in what way it looks horrid to you, but to me a lot of drawing is in how you think about things and not just what you're doing mechanically. Your phrasing implies to me that you're thinking of your drawing in a less…
Oh yeah anybody would get burned out working that much. It's good that you care so much about what you're doing, but taking care of yourself is very important too. Try not to overwork yourself.
Yeah I've seen load of these on every art and comics forum I've ever been on. The standard excuse I get for not showing samples is to prevent ideas being stolen and nothing I can say will ever convince them I do not want their ideas. To me it's a really strong indicator that their writing isn't an…
Yeah for me I think that it's more about hours put in than any one job being inherently easy. None of these jobs are easy. Personally I think everyone should get paid more. I think for me just my experience with people who wanted me to draw their comic for them always wanted to split profits 50/50…
50/50 is not uncommon in professional work for hire situations. There was kind of a blow up on twitter not too long ago about the relative workloads involved and the fact that a lot of comics journalism often doesn't even credit the artists on a comic, as if the art just kind of appears out of the e…
I guess I'll drop in a link. I do a comic called Crypts and Cantrips. The primary site is here: http://cryptsandcantrips.kytri.net/ I'm also mirroring it on tapas and webtoons: I also have an older uban fantasy comic if that's more to your taste. It's nearly finished but it's not hosted on ta…
If you live in the US your comic is automatically copyrighted to you unless you specifically sign away those rights. You can file a copyright too if you want which will make it easier to defend in court if you need to do that. That said the odds of someone stealing your webcomic are very low. Othe…
I don't have a comic specific twitter but I have a personal one at @kytri I post comic updates there and sometimes post other art.
When my grandma was still alive she would cut out newspaper clippings of things related to comics or cartoons and send them to me, sometimes with some kind of weird toy or kitschy gadget. I think she hoped I'd find them useful, though it never really was, and kept doing it up until the last year of …
I mean if it's a mental issue that's fair too, usually the physical issues are due to working long periods on the regular over a period of years. The breaks are more preventative for the physical stuff.
It's actually good to take breaks. Drawing for long periods is hard on your body. Many artists develop problems with their hands, wrists, and/or backs from working too many hours in a row too frequently.
A few costume designs for the next chapter of my comic. [image][image] There's actually five main characters but one of them doesn't really ever change his clothes.
Um something like Second Life maybe? I haven't played it though so IDK?
I'm on desktop and I can read it fine but I could see other people having an issue. It wouldn't hurt to make the text a tad bigger, you also may want to consider switching to a sans-serif font, they tend to read a little easier at small sizes. Personally I get most of my comic fonts from blambot.com…
