@joannekwan My readers have read all my completed works already. I decided to compile the sequels for easier access to edit. I have 16 stories, the majority of which are complete. They have gotten to the point where I'm getting tired hopping from one to the other for minor edits, image placement, etc…
Dear fellow writers and readers that happen to be hanging around the Tapas forums recently, What are your personal opinions on series, whether novels or comics, in terms of: Sequel placement. I am going to use one of my favorite novels as an example, TBATE (The Beginning After The End...it's a g…
In my teens I had a bestie that would see more than one guy at once and I had to cover for her. Girls also generally turn on one another when it's revealed that they've been hooking up with their boyfriends behind their backs. When it comes to teens, it's all about dating drama. Makes or breaks frie…
If inking, I will be willing to provide clean lines. If filling in base colors, I will be willing to provide clean, solid inking. The story is generally about a male werewolf clan leader and a male vampire coven leader falling in love. An example below (though I might simplify the art style even…
So, even though I was the only one who could read my brother's script, the diary and his letter were coming with me. (from an lgbtq+ themed story involving wyverns) https://tapas.io/series/The-Dawns-Dusk
Naw. If I can do it, you can, too. That's why I showed you the "hands as shapes" reference.
Oh, I'm actually very good with hands, but not much else. I forced myself to draw them all the time. I remember as a kid, all I had for references were dolls and their hands were so tiny and fused together that it wouldn't work. I then came across something similar to this that helped me "visualize"…
Don't get wrapped up in your current level because every time you turn around, you'll realize you've improved and will find flaws in your older work. Go for the experience of running a convention booth or exchanging tips with other artists. Bookmarks, magnets, and pins. Keychains.
I had already sketched head-shots and waist-shots of our characters in a collaborated novel and my co-writer actually requested that I draw out what I had written in a scene, but the way I envisioned it was as a comic page (to be able to illustrate it) and she was just so excited to see that scene t…
For the sake of the lettering being contrasted enough to see even from a distance, the one on the left would be best.
Brand new LGBTQ+ themed novel involving wyverns:
My deepest gratitude to everyone who gave me input on this. I decided on sticking with the non-spoiler brother and a solo image for the banner, like so: [image] Thanks to everyone who provided their examples! I hope this thread helped others who were also struggling with discretion.
The only thing I can tell from that cover is that the character on our right is going to be in a world of pain in the next moment. Thank you for sharing!
Agreed! That's why I've been very careful.
Those are really nice! Thanks for sharing!
You've given me a lot to think about. For something as small as a thumbnail, you can literally crop it so you can't tell which person is which (which came to mind when you mentioned silhouettes). I never regret asking the tapas forums anything! Everyone's great. Thank you.
Thank you so much for your insight. Ironically enough my story features dragons, so a dragon on the cover would only be a spoiler if it's the main character in his dragon form(he has a certain physical trait that is a spoiler, but is unseen when he's wearing human clothes).
[image] This would be me trying to figure out a non-incest-related cover page and banner. (Owin, the brother, is in his dragon form)
On my favorite web comics, I've felt like some of the "volume" covers give away certain things, like character pairings or a character that won't be introduced until much later and in the original novel was supposed to be a SURPRISE... I don't usually put much thought into covers other than portra…
In that particular story, Anubis was paired with Khonsu. We took massive creative liberties? The other names are just average characters who happened to end up being named that.
This took me a good little while, but apparently my shared characters with Robin are more varied than I previously thought. [image]
MichiTheThird is a fusion from my real nickname (Michi) and Thirdly, which was/is my online pen-name. Thirdly was what I named a golden cat character I had drawn as my avatar. I can't remember exactly how I chose that word as a name, but if I had to guess, it was because it was one of my favorite wo…
That still sounds good to me. The reason I thought about 'playing with food' was because as children, we're usually scolded for doing that. You're the one that knows what the main character is/should be feeling at any given moment. Most of what I caught were little things. It's hard as the writer to…
Closing the thread! Found a beta reader!
I've native roots in the family. I would honestly just write a disclaimer "This character design is meant to honor inclusivity and not offend any Native Americans. I'm neither claiming to be a native american nor seek to appropriate Native American culture." and leave it at that (to pacify anyone tr…
'never letting anybody inside nor talking to everyone'- This is just a nitpick, you don't need to heed this but: As a reader, I kept wanting to change that "Never" into "NEITHER" because the word "neither" partnered with "nor" feels more natural. ' I ate less and less and dazed more and more as d…
With a soft curse, I bent down to get it and was mortified with a ripping sound. (a BL romance)
Story is complete (36,000 words or so, 14 chapters) LGBTQ in nature (though it's mostly BL, this will make more sense while reading) Fantasy Romance Genre, featuring wyverns (with a mature scene or two) I have..four others who have been helping me in different ways along the way. But, they are go…
The trick is that you have to ignore it for a while, fall "out of love" for it. This way when you go back in, you'll slip into "Editor" mode and and with the mental break, you might even think of things you haven't before along the way and it becomes exciting again.
