Whether or not, this picture turned out better than usual, so I'm happy I had a good art day today, since I've had like a week of bad art days in a row

Two meh drawings of Mandy. I made yesterday and will try rendering today. I like the outfits but I think they'd suit other characters better. And her jawline is messing me up lol.

Jawlines are hard to draw
I never knew how to measure the distance and that made my
character look different in every panel. And my early comic
characters just didn´t have a jawline, it was from the mouth
directly into the neck

This looks like I didn´t draw the whole day. I was just not in the mood for hands, I maybe have to
get something different than hands for a while. I only penciled and inked a comic panel today
but it took me a long time because I was never happy

Day 35,
I finished the linework for the portrait today.
Here is the reference and the freehand drawing on the left.
I will start with the coloring tomorrow. At least I hope so,
my coloring skills are basic as they can be, I only know flat coloring
+ a little bit shading and highlights. Coloring is something I´m pushing
away from me it would be so good to finally be able to color but it´s
something which is hard for me to understand / frustrating to learn

same, unfortunately. I used to always avoid it with analog art until i started pushing myself to make my whole artworks (lineart etc) from start to finish so I had no choice but to color them

I also worked on two rough sketches for my comic panels. this is the first panel. I'm honestly happy to see how much my art has improved. it's been a month since i illustrated the first episode/strip of the comic, and my art has improved by leaps and bounds since then. I guess sometimes it just takes taking a step back for a while. This gives me the vibes of a "real" comic strip now.

You are 100% right,
I think your art has developed just from my pov when I look at your drawings
+ it needs that step back.
That´s one reason to keep old drawings. I sometimes look at artwork from
9 years ago or at artwork from my childhood to see the improvement.
Some of it is also pretty good but didn´t feel like that when I did it

Day 36, another of the many topics I always avoided:
eyebrows!

So I learned the theory about it today and tried to place it
on the portrait in a neutral position. It feels weird that I never
thought about eyebrows before

I´m also working on drawing expressive lips right now, this one
is supposed to be the biting on lips expression, it´s hard

Day 37.
A girl uploaded this reference picture to an anatomy and action group on facebook
and received a lot of comments with wrong (imo) advice from people who can´t
draw the figure better than her.
She actually drew the right (imo) line of action and exactly like I would have drawn
it too, she just rushed the rest of the drawing and didn´t have the skills yet to draw
the figure. I think it can be really harmful to artists to receive a lot of critique from
other beginners. I´m also a learning artist and no expert so I only give very general
opinions or recommend good courses.

I tried to draw that pose today to check if the line of action works and to get
back into figure drawing. The legs are too long, I always drew the legs way
too short as a teenager and people started to make fun of that, I think that´s
why I always draw them too long now

Day 38, I made this step by step drawing process thingy for myself today.
I´m planning to do that with every step of the portrait drawing process
and print it out as cheat sheet for me

And this is how far I am with the next portrait. I got back to basics instead
of continueing with the coloring because I´m still getting a lot of things wrong
with perspective and the planes of the head and I want to get better at it first

I drew my fl's toddler yesterday and completed another panel of my comic strip, so I'm happy

Day 40
I repeated the Rilley rhthm which I use for figure drawing.
The hardest part for me is the pelvis-leg connection.
It´s something which is drawn incorrectly in my many anatomy pictures.
I guess I´m a stereotypical german and want everything to be super accurate
and correct and that´s why things like that are giving me a hard time and slowing
me down a lot. I´m actually trying to figure out the pelvis since years

Finished the last panel for the comic I was working on and can now get started on the third strip in the series. It took me 4 days to do all three panels. Hopefully I'll cut the time down soon
