today i drew my oc Vera for the first time. Didn't render the pic, but here she is

A tip for this is to see the pelvis as a box with two orbs attached to it. The orbs are the hip joints from which the legs begin.

Thank you Kevin, I use the box to draw it, and IĀ“m always kind of stuck at the steps after that and
I have a hard time imagining or seeing the muscles which attach from the pelvis to the femur.
IĀ“m using the Frank Reilly method a lot, and IĀ“m stuck at this point at the moment

More 3d shape drawing

Marilee Montoya from my novel 'Crystal Blue'

Sort of a character design sheet I guess since today was my first time drawing her. I like the fit.

I finally got around to figuring out how to use the multiply layer @ArtGremlin suggested to me. I like the way it works so I'mma try to use it more.

Next time I think I want to add more shadow around the curls on her forehead...

Personally I don't find things like the Riley method very useful, at least not in practice. I myself am more inclined to focus on volume and shape (then again I have a background in animation, so that comes with the territory.)

Something that might be helpful in your studies, or in trying to understand the mechanics of the anatomy, is to stand in front of a mirror and just observe yourself. Just move your leg around and try to look at it from different angles, you'll get a better sense of the 3 dimensionality of it.

I'm assuming you use mostly photo reference in your studies yes? While they are an excellent resource, they lack that actual depth you need to really learn how the body functions.

This artist over on instagram has some great tutorials on how to simplify anatomy

I use a combination of methods, the Reilly method is not useful when you use it alone,
without using 3dimensional shapes. For me personally the Reilly method was the key
that I needed for figure drawing. It never looked and felt right with the boxes which
were just floating around without a connection. I never knew if the distance is right etc.

I donĀ“t only use photo reference, I go to life drawing classes

I generally think that artists should learn all methods and combine them in a way that works
best for them. I will check the resources and see what I can take from them, thanks for uploading
those

I tried drawing Ayla again yesterday, but now she just reminds me of Zuri from Hair Love

Day 42 part 2.
I think I finally memorised and can imagine the satorius and other leg muscle connections.
I could never recall all that information but I got it now.

IĀ“ll print that out and draw that a couple of times on the weekend to be sure

oh wow, today's art turned out really well i think. and that road runner lol

Thank you, it is from a daily drawing challenge group on facebook. I will probably
not upload anything until monday because IĀ“m on tour with a band but then IĀ“ll continue
the 100 days of art. It was a good journey so far and I never thought that I would see
progress

i'm glad it's been helping you improve, and i hope you enjoy the tour

more from that drawing course

Art from a fairy tale my MC in "Crystal Blue" read as a child

art from thursday

these pics were from fairy tales in the world of Crystal Blue and from the art course i'm doing

assuming my math is right, which, bold of me to assume, yesterday was day 59 of my 100 days of art

Art from friday

Mora as a pufferfish with legs. hey, she's a mermaid, so why not make her animal version a fish with legs.

Verner George

a princess painting

and @pjthetoonaddict and @2DLenzy 's ocs Belle and Aldi. I've been meaning to go back and redraw the ocs I did for art trades earlier this year because my art was not so great back then. So just consider these me finally completing my part of the art trades. thanks again for your amazing art of my ocs

Belle's outfit is courtesy of Therese George. It's technically one of her dresses but I thought it would suit Belle

For the record, I've really enjoyed seeing your art improve! (might wanna jump in on this myself at some point for practice)

LOVE how Aldi looks with the outfit, which makes me wanna change hers, (she's been wearing the same corporate getup for a while now XD)

oh, thank you so much. I just wanted to give people some better versions of the oc swap since my art wasn't so great earlier this year. But I've really appreciated the encouragement as i improve, so thanks again and I'm glad you like the drawing and Aldi's fit. And I definitely think it would be cool to see you draw her in another fit. I really like her design

I'm glad you like it. I can finally rest in peace lol

Yesterday I drew @ArtGremlin 's emo boy. Trying to go back over and redraw art from some of the people who gave me awesome art of my ocs earlier this year, since my art has improved since then. Plus I find that I improve more when drawing other people's ocs at times, probably because it pushes me outside of my comfort zone to try drawing things i wouldn't usually draw since I have my biases/go-tos. I'm still not great at coloring, so I posted both versions, but I hope you like it! Just consider this me finally finishing my part of one of our art trades lol. The wooden pendants on the belt are kinda weird, but it's a fairy thing. Thought I'd give him an outfit in his color scheme but one that looks something like what one of my fairy characters would make for someone

Wow, Thank you! Youā€™ve really improved a lot  I love seeing him in different outfits, especially since it expands my mental wardrobe for him.

tysm. I'm still working on drawing guys so Ian was tricky for me. Something about his hair tripped me up a bit too, not sure what. I really respect your skills cuz he is not easy to draw but you do him so well.

i'm the same way with my ocs lol, we need to play dress up with our ocs, that's what they're for!

Yeah his hair is actually way more difficult than it looks :skull: it took me a while to get it to where it is today and Iā€™m still improving.

Day 44, I have been looking into character turnarounds and will copy some
from other artists. Here is the side view of someone elseĀ“s oc (Anna Rettberg)
and I made a colored version because thatĀ“s also something I want to practice more

good to have ya back, this coloring looks cool, makes me think of simplistic animes

@lizardlullabye @Thumber @LostKelp

redrew ya'll's ocs too, since the art wasn't so hot the first time i tried earlier this year (and i stunk at taking photos and it was all analog.) So consider this me finally finishing my part of our art trades from earlier this year

Lizardlullabye's nameless vintage girl

Alya. Still digging the hair.

Adelia. I did something quirky with her outfit giving her a jumpsuit.

Hot dang homie! Alya looks great! you've improved so much, good on you! I'll be sure to send another drawing of one of your characters - I think mora is a pretty cool design So I'll send a drawing of her your way ASAP.

Oh, thank you, but you don't have to. I just wanted to give you an improved one as thanks for the picture of Essence, and the advice you gave me on trying to draw Mora as well. Thanks again for that and the encouragement

@Amalockh1 I redid the drawing of Jack I gave you. Didn't know he was a kid the first time so I figured i'd make you an updated version, especially since my art has improved since when i drew the original

Day 45, I did the 3/4 view for the character turnaround today.

I will continue my drawing day now with character turnarounds of the characters of the comic
IĀ“m working on.

Yesterday's art

I made a better drawing of @Rai_Muffin 's oc I tried to draw for an art trade earlier this year. Thanks again for the pic of Alicia you made me, so I made you a digital version of Natsumi since the last one I made was analog

Redrew @ThunderChicken 's well, not oc, but him, since he's the mc of his novel. Thanks again for the art you made of Kattar! So I figured i'd make you a better version of the portrait i drew you earlier this year. colored and uncolored since i'm awful at coloring but i need to practice lol

I know I don't have to. but I like your art and your characters and I like drawing for other people. and I like to keep things even anyway.

oh, tysm. And this drawing is awesome! I love the way you rendered her hair and complexion. Can I share this on my ig and tag you?
