Just curious, but has anyone ever taken a look at 4chan's art comm? Imo it's unique in that the way they give critique is very blunt and consciously insulting, unlike maybe dA or Tapas. It's not really helpful if you want actual advice on how to improve sometimes but I think it's kinda funny and like jolts you awake when you're like "hmm my drawing looks not too shabby" and then someone's like "your drawing looks like a log of shit that was liquified in photoshop" (not kidding saw this once).

4chan is a cesspool and I can't recommend it to any artist or creative professional. It's essentially the same to me as saying "go to an unsafe part of town dressed to the nines and with an expensive camera; maybe you'll be murdered but maybe you'll just be insulted and your sanity questioned. You might just lose the camera, but it'll make you feel better you didn't get violently killed."

nahhh they pretend to be psychos but theyre just edgelords with no lives. i don't think a large portion of them are actually dangerous. why not post your art there and take a look? ^^

eh, i've lurked for a few years but frankly it's too toxic of an environment for anyone to grow as an artist. sure, you can get actual USEFUL criticism - but most of the time it's absolutely Useless critique because they believe the only Good Art is Entertainment Design Esque photobash concept art for live-action which everyone should strive for otherwise You're A Shit Artist or someone just says "READ LOOMIS". Often times, the latter is what most critique boils down to.

anyone worth their salt or genuinely understands art foundation skills on that board has long left gone, so now most of the time people who comment are trolls or people who think after they read one book on a certain topic that they Know everything and give terrible redlines.

Allow me to present to you, the Internet's art world hierarchy:

2. Tumblr
3. Tapastic/LINE Webtoons
4. Facebook
5. reddit
6. DeviantArt
7. 4chan

Unless getting anally raped by ironically autistic, hentai-obsessing, inbred neckbeards (such as myself) is your type of party, DEAR GOD AND BLACK JESUS STAY OUT OF 4CHAN. If you can't even handle the shit I just spewed out of my mouth, and are offended/triggered in any way by it, you are NOT prepared for 4chan. I don't think anyone ever is.

You should only be going into 4chan if you've lost any and all respect for yourself. Nobody there wants to see your art. Nobody there wants you to even be there. If you want to get a taste of 4chan without the full experience of 4chan, go join reddit or something. Art aside, /r/greentext, /r/classicgreentext, /r/imgoingtohellforthis, /r/politics (HAHAHA i'm sorry i couldn't resist) and of course, /r/4chan are great places to be to get the 4chan experience... without having to actually step foot into that shithole and degrade yourself. You'll probably still walk out of these subreddits scarred for life, but it's nothing compared to getting your butthole penetrated by those cretins. I'm ashamed myself to even know so much about how they function and where it's safe/unsafe.

Reddit is like marijuana and 4chan is straight up meth. Don't even entertain the idea of trying it.

i'm like...not sure why anyone would want to post their art on 4chan? they don't seem to understand how to credit things, and back when my guy friends would frequent the fanart boards they would message me all the time telling me that people were posting my shit on the boards without my permission or knowledge or credit.

Occasionally you get some really good critique, but most of the time it's just shit posting and everyone being a bunch of d/ic/kheads.
I occasionally get some genuine critiques, but I wouldn't reccomend going there if you want to continue growing as an artist. My progress has been stunted, and there's no hope left, so it's the only reason I visit that shit hole.

So internet communities like 4chan can be tempting because they hit such a wide audience? But their crit is unuseable and their members are fickle and entitled. I tried making use of it for the first time in my life because a buddy managed to establish a presence there, a few months later she never wants to go back and frankly neither do I. Calling em Edgelords is an insult to teenage boys. They are flat out the only group of people I've ever encountered I would universally describe as losers.

I don't know anyone who I've seen improve through 4chan critique. In theory it's a great idea, you could get honesty because of the anonymity, but the fact is that people just want to be rude. The only people I know who post there just make porno art, with terrible anatomy and no one cares so long as they get art of girls laying eggs < _ <

If you want good honest critique, discord channels are nice because you can connect with pros and other amateurs and get detailed, honest and polite critiques without just being shat upon.

Maybe if you're not interested in improvement, enjoy drawing cheap hentai, and want a chuckle and the feeling of friends 4chan is pretty fun to post at
