I remember when I was creating my old comic's (The Stars Above Us, which is now in indefinite hiatus, this should really tell you a ton about what this story entails lmao) buffer, I finished up one of the episodes, and went to sleep.
Next day - turned on my laptop. It blue screens. I tried to do what I can to fix it (reset, even did a clean reinstall) but to no avail. 2 MONTHS WORTH OF UPDATES WAS GONE! And all because I didn't bother to back up my shit, lmao. Even worse was that this was like, maybe a month before the comic was released? So that was fun. I went ahead and published the first episode anyway because of some obligation to get it out on the date I said I would and some delusion that I would be able to handle my first comic (yes this was my first ever comic) without a buffer.
I guess the only positive from that was that I got to redraw the episodes because honestly the art in it sucks lmao. Still not worth losing 2 months worth of updates.
So yea, I put my comic in hiatus for four months during its short run because updates were always like 2 weeks late and it was becoming really difficult to balance life and the comic, and put it into hiatus after 1 month of it coming back because my motivation fizzled out and the buffer I DID manage to make back during the four month hiatus was too small for me to truly relax (I remember distinctly that when I released the new episode, I only had the next update lined up. It was barely a buffer). I have never looked at blue screens the same way again and I thank the heavens everyday that out of pure dumb luck I got CSP - its autosave feature is a fucking GODSEND.
Back up your motherfucking files.
