Beacon Scene 1
I'm going to post the first scene here of my graphic novel, Beacon. It starts off seeming like a standard slice of life type family reconciliation kind of story as it is now, but things will soon take a tragic turn. As far as the type of critique I'm looking for, anything goes, but I really want to know if the script works for direct artist collaboration as is. Does the script give enough direction for artists to know what's going on, and is it vague enough to maximize artistic freedom? I can provide further details as needed, so ask if you're curious about the lore, magic system, and plot details. I pretty much have all the plot points lined up and ready to go from beginning to end, so I can basically answer everything you might ask in detail.
Currently I have 56 comic pages drafted out for volume 1. I can provide the rest if you'd like. Just let me know.
Here is a working synopsis of the story:
In a land where elemental ore dictates the laws of nature, a young girl, Anisette, is forced away from her peaceful life in her village. Locked away from society, she is subjected to intensive and torturous experimentation along with the rest of her fellow villagers. All this perpetrated by someone she once admired, if only a bit. Weeks pass and Anisette manages to break free from her tormented bondage with newfound ability. As rage and desolation rule her life, she sets off on a quest for vengeance pointed towards someone she once held dear, but is vengeance truly what a broken child needs to fill such deep, emotional wounds?
A quick thank you to JWA Beasley, creator of Etherwood here on Tapas, for drawing that picture of Anisette. He critiqued the first draft of the full Beacon volume 1 a while back and drew that little sketch with a pen and some borrowed highlighters. It's pretty cool getting fanart for a rough and unfinished story I must say.
