Eyyyy. I was planning on doing this with one of my novels! I had gotten to chapter 6 and had quite a few comic panels lined up. It's nice to see so many others have wanted to explore the idea
I learned from someone in the forums that wasn't going to work, purely because of the size limitations on images. It looks like you found a way to work with it, but visually it does look a bit jarring to me. I think that's primarily because of all of the black borders on the side. Even without the black borders, the alignment of the image is awkward. The format here on Tapas.io is just not conducive to an illustration comic.
I say that because if you have illustrations or comic panels, they should also be aesthetically placed. To be misplaced is to take away from both the illustration and the formatting of the story.
With that said, if you like the way it looks, and you are the type to not worry about views and engagement and generally just post for fun because that's what's most important to you, stick with it! I knew I'd be taking a risk with my novel when I was making it, but it was so fun to be working with both mediums and change things up for myself. The only reason I didn't stick with it is because of the limitations of the images.
I'd recommend looking at some illustrated novels, to get a sense of when illustrations appear and how they complement what is on the page. These can usually be found with classics that are considered "for children". I believe Harry Potter also has a giant illustrated novel of the first few books. That was a few years ago, so I imagine they have the entire series out now.
The format in these illustrated novels are, undoubtedly, going to be better than anything we can do on Tapas because their text can wrap around images, or fit in between parts of the pictures and kind of "interact". But getting a sense of when an illustration helps can help bridge the hybrid without suddenly cutting between comic and novel. In your first episode, there's a clear division between the two, so it looks less like a hybrid and more like I'm reading one medium and then suddenly the next.
There's no pre-determined way to go about this, no rules, this is largely up to personal preference, but having illustrations sprinkled throughout prose feels more like a hybrid to me, as opposed to entire comic pages.
Ultimately, if you like the way you're doing it and that's how you're going to finish the story, do it! Good luck!
