Does "Soteria & Jonah: The Scarlet Dragon" sound religious and not inclusive to you?
No, it doesn't sound religious. I dont think people's first reaction when they see names like Peter, Paul, Mark, Elijah, Moses, Stephen, Samuel, Solomon, Ruth, Judith, Rachel, is to think they sound religious and not inclusive.
Inclusive? how is that a consideration for a title of just a name? Think you are over thinking this.
I didn't intend to make you over-think every little thing like this when I talked about the really strong Christian themes potentially putting people off on Tapas...
The title sounds fine. Even though Jonah is a Biblical name, it's a pretty common name in the US, so nobody is going to think "it's about that guy who got swallowed by a whale". Dragons aren't mentioned in the Bible to my recollection, so nothing about this screams "this is about Christianity".
It really wasn't the titles of your other works that I was talking about anyway, it was the content of the blurbs and how they kept talking about ministry and stuff.
Do you want to write a religious story or a secular one?
Without a description is it hard to say if the story is religious or not. There are some Christians who see dragons are parallels to demons and satan. If the description was that kind of dragons, then I might think it is a religious story.
If your story at the end of the day is religious and centering on the religion of your choice than it shouldn't matter if it's inclusive to secular readers. It's a 50/50 shot that they will read it with religious themes as the main focus of the story.
Even if this story is stepping away from religious themes, choose whatever name you think best suites the character regardless of it they're present in the Christian bible. I imagine most secular readers are not going to be thinking about that.
