A5 and A4 question

Hey Guys

One of my series is created in A3 size (adrenaline Shots) however I have a couple of others that are more A4 size.

Would there be a huge issue printing those A4 style comics in A3 size or do you think that I’ll have to do substantial rearranging of those pages?

Maybe? A4 looks substantially narrower than A3 in terms of page ratio. You'll want to make sure you've made sufficient space for the bleeds as the lines for each will be different. It'll likely affect your gutters more than your outer bleed edges. If you're going from A3 down to A4, then manage the width and put white at the top into the bleed areas if needed.

I actually have a few US released manga that have done that sort of treatment of adding white borders. Japanese manga are printed in tankobans and then smaller books, and both generally agree with each other on scaling sizes, but US manga uses a more "American" standard size for their books, and as such, a lot of the mangas have scale issues
(YuGiOh and a lot of those standard print manga are odd scaling, larger than JP's small books, but off in ratio. Higher quality print releases, usually from the popular boy's love manga's by June iirc, are printed still larger than JP's small books, but on better quality paper and the ratio is correct mostly)

Most places offer a discount for a prototype book printed. Usually on lower quality paper or ink, or the "real thing" at a bit of a discount. That'll help you figure out what to adjust where and how.

all the A(x) sizes are proportional to eachother, so you can scale down no problem - BUT if you have very detailed work, theres an element that will be lost with enough downsizing

A4 is basically if you fold A3 in half, you don't have to rearrange anything since it's pretty proportional.
I think it's rare to find a comic book in A3 because it's pretty big, like especially when you open it up and the spread will be huge (A2). Most comics are printed A4 or smaller, but either way do some test prints to see which size you prefer. Sizing your A4 pages to A3 might lose some details and look pixalated or blurry, sizing down is preferable.

i spose thats broadsheet dimensions? ive seen it done like, once, and its not far off the dimension for tin tin and asterix. definitely rare but a pretty cool size to work at (and newspapers are cheap as shit to print)
