About speech bubbles

Do you prefer to have speech bubbles or just have the words floating? Both when reading comics and drawing them

I prefer speech bubbles: they make things a lot less confusing and more understandable. Speech bubbles can also be great to convey certain emotions and tones of voice. So yeah, speech bubbles all the way!

Speech bubbles, so that I know who is talking and whether or not the words are speech, narration, or thought. Speech bubbles don't have to be bubbles, they can boxes as well. I use my bubbles to add more personality to my comic because I hand draw them all (except the boxes) to match the line art style of the illustrations. If the words were left floating, I would just be questioning who they were attributed to.

Bubble be pretty essential, and should be considered as much as the art with their shape and placement. Stylizing a bubble can help give a character a voice or tone. Look up The Sandman for great examples.

I would say don't try to reinvent the wheel on this one. Dialogue balloons and boxes work well and are a known reading style that people are used to. You want the focusing on your story, not your style of dialogue.

bubbles are so important at this point for clarity and ease of reading--I'd never skip using bubbles, and as a reader, it would actually make me not read the comic if there weren't clear bubbles

I do bubble to make it readable, but I think I did floating words once for a stylistic choice. However I make sure to have each character use a certain color and word background so you know who’s talking easier. When I did this I colored the background in the color normally used for the characters bubble, if that makes sense
