I've been really lucky to have had this happen a few times, on both platforms, so I'm happy to share my observations.
For staff picks on both platforms, what are the steps you did that you think made your comic noticed by the staff and be in the staff picks?
- First off, you need to have good quality work. It doesn't need to be quite at a professional level, but it needs to be intermediate at least, with good grammar and attractive art. Having a vertical format also makes a staff pick more likely.
- Second, you need to make yourself visible. My Tapas staff picks would have happened because I'm active on the forums. My Webtoon ones happened because I often tag the CANVAS team on social media.
Usually how many days the staff picks last on both platforms? Is it a day, a week, or two weeks?
- On Tapas, both the features I was given lasted a week. On Webtoon, it depends on where you're featured; some categories last for three days, while others last for a week.
Where did you got promoted on the front page? Is it on the Community Picks (on Tapas) Canvas Hidden Gems (on Webtoon) and etc.?
- On Tapas, I've been featured in 'New From The Community' and in 'Staff Picks'.
- On Webtoon, I've been in 'Spotlight', and I was also put in the 'Fantasyland' collection during the Canvas Festival. (That one was... I still can't believe that actually happened to me.
)
Did you got staff pick twice/thrice or more and did it help your sub growth? For the second/third time you got picked by Staff Picks, did you do any steps to get noticed, if yes what are those steps?
- Both Tapas features were very helpful, relative to the size of Tapas. I would have gained about 90 subs from each one, so that's easily one thrid of my readership here. The rest is mostly through the forums.
- The first Webtoon feature took me from around 450 subs to just under 2000, which felt massive. The second one then took me from around 2000 to 5600, which was huuuuge!
- Once the staff are aware of your comic, you're more likely to be promoted again. I haven't changed my approach; I still tag Webtoon in all my social media, and I'm still active here on the forums. I'm also active on the new Canvas Discord, though I'm not sure how active the staff are there; I'm only there to meet other creators and make friends.
