Haha One-Punch man, exactly. I actually love that story. Also I couldn't agree more. This is actually a bad thing because it has now become trendy. Most young comic enthusiasts believe that this is the norm because the "pros" produce gimmicky simplistic main characters that all have the same backstory and throw them into a bunch of obstacles that they just seem to melt through like cotton candy when you eat it lol. I mean don't get me wrong, there is nothing cooler the main character card everyone wants to see the hero prevail, but, that card gets played out quickly. If a 15 year old with no previous battle experience one-shots 20 of the worlds elite fighters with only a month of training backing him up and a "master" it sort of makes you think.....what? Or lets say that the main character does struggle, it's only for a few moments and then somehow he has mastered his opponent who has 30 plus yrs experience rofl. However it's a different case if the character understands his own weakness and inferiority juxtapose his opponent and compensates by turning that into his advantage, i.e the story of David and Goliath.
Regardless, even if it is make believe the goal behind any illusion is to make the viewer believe what they are seeing. How many times have you felt for a character in any type of story almost as if they were a real person?
