Alright, here's the breakdown. TLDR version is that you won't make any money from ads, at least not anytime soon.
Tapas tracks both your views and your ad views - people that read your stuff with adblock on don't contribute to your ad views. If you get more than ~100 ad views in a day, you'll get ~$0.01. More ad views on that same day means more money. The count starts over for each day, so if you have 5 days in a row with 50 ad views each, you won't get anything but if you have 250 ad views on one day you'll probably get ~$0.02.
You get to keep your ad revenue but you can only make a withdrawal at $25, so if you get $0.05 per month (relatively decent), it'll only take you 42 years to get that withdrawal! I've made $0.50 from ads so far, and I had ad sharing activated in July.
So don't expect it to cover your rent or anything but accept that your story is growing - keep heart and keep working!
