Ad Revenue Program : Inconvenient?

Hello everyone ,

Here's the thing : my series just hit 100 subs (so happy about it), and thus unlocked the Ad Revenue Program. I already checked posts about it here and there, so I know I probably won't make money from it at all.

However, I won't lie, I really am attracted by the program x) Having the chance to be paid for your creation, and feeling like a pro... that's just insanely cool ahah

So here's my question before doing anything stupid : to what extent do the ads alter the reading experience? Cuz it's cool and all, but if it bothers the readers too much while reading, it's not that cool anymore (though it doesn't bother me personally when I'm the one reading).
On top of that, my story has very short episodes, so there will proportionally be more ads, right?

They dont really do much and chances are most readers have ad blockers which is why most creators ask their readers to turn off ad blockers when reading. I say just turn on the rev anyway, receiving some compensation for your work is better than nothing

First off, Ads will ALWAYS be present on the site regardless of if you have ad-rev activated or not though, so as long as you're hosting here you may as well have ad-rev on.

As for them being inconvenient, it depends on the reader, what ads are being targeted to them and their tolerance levels. Each experience is also going to be different for them as well depending on
- where they live (some ads are country based, some shady ads get through depending on location)
- what browsers they are using (if they're reading on the computer)
- what device they are using (if they are reading on mobile)
- if they had adblock or not

Some of my readers have no issues with the site. Other readers I have the site is completely unreadable because of the ads.

Myself when I'm reading, maybe 75% of the time the ads are just fine, until I run into an ad that will auto redirect me or give me a pop up, or will alert my antivirus software (and yes. It's an ad on the site not something on my computer, this is literally the only site I do not use adblock on and as soon as I turn it on the problem will go away, I usually leave adblock up for a few weeks or a month to wait for the ad to get caught and cleared out and then go back to having no problems on the site)

There's also a glitch on the desktop that will keep jumping me to the next episode (or even the episode after) that makes reading annoying I'm not sure if it's an ad related issue but I suspect that is it cause this problem doesn't happen if I have adblock on.

Depending on the readers tolerance levels to that inconvenience, it could be a make or break issue.

Tapas itself positions it's ads just fine. They're under the comic or at the side, and generally don't intrude with reading.

I'm not worried about it but my circumstances are probably different.

My story hit 11,000 reads on WP in under five months but they don't have any added benefit unless tipping rolls out over there within the next couple of months. Even then readers seem hesitant.

I think adverts would be better, but WP's Future program seems to have gone downhill.

I'll most likely participate in Tapas's revenue sharing once it opens up.
