Affording NYC SVA?

I am planning on going to NYC SVA and majoring in cartooning. Does someone think they can help me figure out how much money as a transfer student you will have to cough up for a Cartooning BFA? I think they treat transfer students the same as student who were there all four years but I don't know.
I also want to know how much it is if you got a couple scholarships, and some tips on how to get scholarships? Thank you.

Well first of all I took a pre-college cartooning course and learned absolutely nothing. I majored in Computer Arts and actually got somewhat of an education. I even work with people who took cartooning in my studio and they all agreed there's no way to get work, it's better to major in animation/computer arts. They were basically told there was no point in taking this field.

As for the price for the whole 4 years is maybe somewhere in the 100,000 range? They are bitch with transfer credits because they are horribly disorganized and may force you to take classes again unless you pressure them.

I got a scholarship for 60,000 which is the only one they give you. I don't really know how, it's depending on how good your portfolio is but honestly the majority of the money came from financial aid and outside scholarships.

I am about to start my first year of college in the fall at a non-arts centered school, so my experience here is severely limited, but I'd recommend applying for all the weird scholarships you can. I have a friend who just looked up a scholarship a week and applied to all of them and she turned out pretty well.

I will warn you, however, that though SVA is an amazing school, it is a for-profit school (actually the reason I didn't decide to apply there), which might mean that they won't be super generous with scholarships. Outside scholarships would be the way to go in my opinion.

Are they really that bad at transferring credits?

Thank you for your input! Tbh I really do feel like this is the right school for me... My only serious con is how expensive it is, but I'm willing to work hard for it. I've also been told that SVA is a mess when it comes to transferring credits? Do you have any knowledge on that? (I am going to be coming from a community college)

As far as transferring credits goes, I have no idea. Maybe try shooting an e-mail to someone at SVA. In my experience, it was pretty easy to get in touch with the administration when I had questions.

it's very disorganized so you gotta be really keen on talking it straight with the people there. And majoring in cartooning might be a waste of money, you have to realize what you're getting yourself into when finding a field to work in.

I know that this thread is old. so no one may respond but I just got my acceptance letter for Fall 2018 Cartooning and hearing all of this makes me cringe a bit. I did not receive a scholarship (someone I know got 80k) with my acceptance, however, I called and they said that between now and February they are still handing out scholarships. Even to those accepted.

SVA Is my dream school but I do have other options in New Jersey that accepted me into their schools. Is the major really that dead?
