Amazon now doing web novels

I went to my Amazon bookshelf for authors and there was a link for a beta to Kindle Vella which is basically a web novel platform. At least that's what it looked like. I wonder how that's going to affect a place like Tapas since Amazon has a tendency to just engulf everything in its surroundings.
