I think OP means another type of refined. Some people DO try to have hot takes just for the sake of sounding like they know some big secret about the work, though, but it's not art culture, it's entertainment culture in general. You're "not like the others", you know cereal with milk is actually the worst that's ever happened to humanity, and all those lowly creatures are just eating without thinking.
In art school I had a lot of people try to say illustration was bad because it wasn't directly attempting social reform, for example. Even the ones that were doing critique or challenging, because the "real art" is installation and making the audience use your work. Lots of people's portfolios got called "figurative" with the tone of a swear word, and god help them if they drew in a cartoon or comic/manga style, because that's for the masses.
I did have that "okay to like things again" period, now that I think about it, because I spent my last year not reading much since SO MANY assignments consisted of reading 20 pages of aesthetics discussion where the guy tells you your taste sucks because you're poor. (or maybe, being poor gives you a third eye into the ultimate perspective, just like all those stories where the blind person has magic powers to compensate)
