Hi everyone,

Like so many before me, I'm asking for feedback/criticism on my comic, Virtue.

Not so much because I have virtualy no suscribers as I've read on many other topics to let things grow, be patient, and I am enjoying making it very much for its own sake anyway - but because I'd really like to improve.

I'd be grateful for pretty much any feedback, though there are a few specific questions I'd like to ask:

1. Very practically; err, is the banner readable? The writer of the comic says it looks ok on his PC, but on mine it doesn't, so I'm left a little bit unsure.
2. The font. I've read that non italic fonts are better. Is mine ok? Should I change?
3. The choice of black and white I've made. Does it work?
4. Does the flow of the story work? What coud be improved?
5. I'm acutely aware of my shortcomings artwise (anatomy, perspective..) and I'm working hard on trying to improve on it. Please, if there is anything that you think I should focus on as a priority because it hinders the narrative, let me know..

Firstly I just want to preface my response by saying that I am by no means an expert and I will just be commenting on what I feel about your artwork.

Overall I think that it is very detailed and yet still charming. Although that the backgrounds are often too murky and empty which makes the image feel jarring because the mid-ground and fore are so richly detailed. Sometimes your backgrounds are just completely empty; take a look at my comics and it's obvious that I struggle with much of the same background problems.

Another thing I loved was the character expressions I think they communicated quite a lot however (again check my comics to see the same problems) it is very important to use references for any poses that you're unfamiliar with otherwise you might end up drawing a scene that's intended to have 'high energy' but ends up looking static. When I say you should look at my work I don't think you should compare them (that's always a bad idea for an artist) instead just treat it as an example of how ignoring backgrounds and not using references can go really wrong.

2) For me sans serif fonts are better for comics. As long as it is readable it is ok. I would put less line spacing, but that's just a matter of taste.
3) I like it. But it's up to you.
4) I feel like I need more context to understand it. I know it is all after the end of the world in Paris. But I would like to know what is going on and who are these people.
5) I like your art it is pretty cool. But I feel like it needs a spark, to make me feel things when I read it. ( I know this is totally subjective and I don't know how to explain it.)

Thank you! Entirely agreed on the backgrounds. Also agreed on the high energy scenes, though what I managed there is still better than what I could do before, so I'm not too unhappy still. Baby steps! That's exactly the kind of feedback I was looking for, thanks for taking the time.

You know.. I actually feel the same. The lack of spark, I mean. It seems like drawing digitally kills it somehow. I need to figure out why.. Thanks so much !

Hey there! I haven't read the comic yet, but I will.
The banner shows just fine. The font is readable and clear, but I can't really say I like it either. I don't know if it doesn't fit the atmosphere of your comic or maybe it's just because I'm used to different fonts in comics. If you feel unsure about it you could just try out different things untill you find something you feel certain about. The use of black and white is nice, especially in more detailed pictures or close ups. Maybe you could use a bit more dark grey at times but other than that it looks really nice. I agree with what lunaartemisasama said about a spark. Even though some panels have a dynamic pose or view point I do feel like sometimes the drawings are a bit stiff or unnatural - not all the time, but sometimes. I think it's because of the thick black lines you sometimes use, if you could I suggest I try to vary the with of the lines a bit more. It misses some life or spontanity I guess. Critique sounds really negative at times, but it looks really nice already! I can't really say anything about the story since it's not that far along yet. It does look really interesting this far.
Being an absolute nerd who loves art and architecture I couldn't help but smile at all the things I recognised, I shall subscribe

Hey there!! Here's my feedback as a reader and a fellow comic buddy!

1) The banner is readable. But I find that when my browser window has a certain size the Banner gets cut.

2) For the banner itself I think the font looks fine!

I think since it's a title you can use a font a little different, that reflects the style of your story line. The font you used to reference the authors I still think looks good since it does have a feel professional like on a cover of a printed book . Using the font in italic in this case is just a matter of opinion! So go with what you feel it's right for you!

3) I think it looks good since you have a black and white comic and since the theme seems like some type of post apocalyptic time.

4) I think the flow until now is good but I think it's too soon to give feedback since the story it's really early on :)!

5) I really think you're going in the right direction! Your line work looks good!

I think an improvement you could try would be taking advantage of light and shadow.

Since your comic is in black and white if you use more shadow/light contrasts it will give even more power to some moments in your comic! You have some shadow work but I think you can try some darker tones for example when meeting the vilan. Or the gargoyle attack! Don't be afraid of of having darker tones and more contrast !
You can try using photoshop brightness and contrast or levels to give more contrast!

Thanks for the banner. I guess this explains why it doesn't look ok on my screen.

Those are good examples and definitely something I'm going to look at closer. It almost makes me regret that I have three months worth of buffer and that there'll be time before the results of this show.

5.Anatomy...yes...maybe facial expression...I mean not when they're like in danger more when they're kinda idle..get it? Although even then...it's actually pretty good. Oh well

I like the detailed cathedral art, and your sense of humor shines through.

I'm very interested to see how your artwork develops over the next few years, and how your story develops along with it, should you stick with it. Because while your art style is decent, it has good 'bones' and I can see it has great potential if you keep cranking out work and improving your style. Which I wouldn't say if I didn't believe, cause then I just wouldn't say it.

The story isn't mine, but the writer and I have been friends for years, so that also helps with collaborations.
