Hi,
I recently released my first comic chapter ever. It has the classic panel format from the comics we all are used to. Until that point, i didn't even know about web comics, i just searched for free web space to host my comic.
Shortly after release (yesterday) i got feedback. I was happy the existence of my comic was acknowledged, but i don't want to bore you, so lets get to the central point:
It was suggested, that i chose a different format, because... i will just quote it: "...so the reader doesn't immediately see the next few panels. This would give a better sense of pacing and tension I think. It would also be slightly easier to read."
The next thing i did was checking out some comics on tapas.io. Indeed the format is different to what im used to. Everthing is just top-down. You all know what i mean. I consider doing it myself now, because my comic is never going to be printed.
But i discovered an issue, which leaves me undecisive. On phones, the classic format looks small and the web format is easy to read. But on PC and Laptop, the classic format is fine, while the web format is just huge. Here is a random comic from popular: https://tapas.io/episode/475323
The first panel, and everything that isn't in a horizontal format, doesn't fit on my screen. And i have to scoll for so tiny amount of text, which is gonna be annoying.
So both formats have pros and cons on each device. But the drawbacks on both devices for each format seem so large for me, that i can't really accept one. What do you guys think? For me it's really hard atm. Just drop some thoghts you have about this topic.
