I don't animate anything related to my comics (well, not anymore) but here's some of my recent WIPs:

The 2nd and 3rd example are from my newest project, designed to be a miniseries with actual episodes. So I'm working out a more simplified style that I can use to portray movement in as few frames as possible without relying on smears (because this isn't an action series, unfortunately...or fortunately...).
Consistency is key, and that's what makes it hard: you can't just switch to more 'normal' animation when you're doing simple movements (like the one below) you have to stick with the low framerate and still make it look relatively smooth.

Lip syncing is also a nightmare...I'm MUCH better at it now than I was when I first started last year, but timing everything and keeping track of which frames you're putting in is such a complicated task...probably because I don't actually use any animation programs; I hand draw cels and just manipulate them digitally, like it's the 90s or something. ^^;
So although I can draw in layers, I can't animate in layers...each frame has to contain whatever it needs to contain in the final product, and it's up to me to arrange them correctly.
(Before I go, I just wanna add this GIF 'cause it's one of my favorites~)
